Behringer Ultrabass BXL3000A 300-Watt 2-Channel Bass Workstation Review

Behringer Ultrabass BXL3000A 300-Watt 2-Channel Bass Workstation
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this amp and put it to work the very next day. I played Bass in a small church service full of 250 or so teens, next to a drummer so loud that my ears rang. I could clearly hear the bass amp.
I used it mainly as a monitor and lined it into the house system, but the band was loud on stage and this amp was up for the task. I didn't even need to turn it to "11."
Add to this the funky Ultrabass and the included pedal, the inputs to mix a CD or MP3 to practice, and headphone jack - this amp rocks.
One caveat: there is a slight noise that can now be heard in the mix. I am going to have that checked. Even so, it hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for the BXL3000A.

Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe Review

Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I play in 2 bands and I typically use 2 to 3 Basses on stage depending on the band (and the stage). I have always fought with having to dial in the right tone for each Bass every time I switch Basses. The Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe solves that problem. I can preset the 3 main tones I need for 2 Basses and when I switch basses, it just takes a split second to hit the footswitch and I have the exact sound I need. This thing is very easy to setup and has a boatload of other features. Besides the obvious XLR Direct out, it also has a 1/4" Parallel out that is pre-tone controls so you can send your unaltered Bass signal to a Tuner or in my case, another amplifier. It also has an effects loop so you can have your effects setup and just hit one switch and you have the tone you need plus the effects you need. There's a small learning curve and you need some time for trial and error with the tone controls and the drive, level and blend controls if your customizing your own sounds. You can also just use the stock sounds that come pre-programmed and it sounds great. I've had many compliments from band mates as well as fans in the audience about my sound since using the Bass Driver Deluxe. I would definitely recommend the Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe for any Bassist. I would also recommend you buy the optional Tech 21 DC2 DC2 Power Supply.

Sledgehammer 4 String Bass (Ash) Review

Sledgehammer 4 String Bass (Ash)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a modified version of this instrument. The prior owner had converted it to a fretless by removing the frets (a risky move, but what the heck, it didn't destroy the neck, so,...). I love this instrument. With or without the frets, I can say that the neck feels great, and you can't beat that big fat music man-style humbucker for the tones it gives! If you find one of these, they're well worth the investment.

Aguilar AG 500SC Bass Head Boss Brown Review

Aguilar AG 500SC Bass Head Boss Brown
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Aguilar AG500SC is simply a fantastic bass amplifier, hands down. If you are looking for a warm, punchy, deep sound, you can't go wrong with Aguilar. It gets very loud, certainly loud enough for mid-size venues and cuts through a mix very well. The construction is VERY solid. I've never seen a more neatly and carefully wired machine in my life. And I really dig the aesthetics, with the rich brown color and simple, easily readable EQ and knob layout. Ultimately, I would rather have gone with the dual-channel model, but for the moment I just can't afford it. But trust me, there's not a hint of regret in my purchase. I am VERY happy with this amplifier.
Props also goes to Amazon, which has not only the best selection of Aguilar products (pretty much every model in every color combo under the sun), but also the best prices (and FREE shipping to boot). Delivery was quick and professional and I have had no problems with the product after purchase. Highly recommended!

Four bands of active EQ with bright and deep switches provide a variety of tones that can go from funk to rock to jazz. A flexible FX Loop and pure sounding D.I. are easily accessible on the front of this amp. Great features, tons of power and an affordable price make this amp a classic. This model in "Boss Brown". Looks great with Tweed cabinets. *Optional: Headcase or Carry bag

Source Audio Soundblox Pro Multiwave Bass Distortion Effects Pedal Review

Source Audio Soundblox Pro Multiwave Bass Distortion Effects Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm giving this 5-stars YET I ended up returning it. In the final analysis, an amazing pedal but it just wasn't a fit for me and my style. That said, many players will find this a welcome addition to their pedalboard for home, gigs and the studio.
Source has given us bass players a truly novel pedal. Well thought out and executed. Quite honestly, it is unlike every other distortion pedal for bass. Really. It has the ability to produce an incredibly wide range of sounds and tones like no other single pedal. Here is my bottom-line...
- Most importantly, know upfront that if you are looking for "traditional" OD, boost and/or fuzz capabilities this pedal doesn't go there. It doesn't replace those pedals.
- It's real strength - and what it excels at - is in producing a very wide-array of synth-like tones. I've NEVER heard anything like it. Truly amazing range. You won't believe what you will hear. Sounds you've never imagined in your wildest dreams. And I might add...Very, VERY funky! Could potentially replace envelope filters and the like that you may be using.
- The ability to seamlessly morph from one sound setting to another (pro model only via an expression pedal) is incredible.
- Pick playing just doesn't do the pedal justice. This is a big one...Sounds much, much better if you are primarily a finger-style or slap player rather than a pick player like me. The pedal really shines and is at its best when you play finger/slap style. Pick playing seems to mute and alter the intended sound dynamics - for me, in a negative way. Not sure why this occurs.
- I've never seen a pedal with so many ways to adjust and fine-tune every setting - especially on the pro model. The settings are very sensitive and you can really tailor every setting to suit you, your bass, your amp and your style - and then save it to one of 6 locations.
- Made just for bass. Their proprietary technology really works as promised. It does an amazing job of handling and not losing any bass tone. You can readily hear each string (individually and in chords) even when highly distorted. Far from the usual undifferentiated, muddy mess of sound that most distortion pedal produce.
All in all, Source offers the bass player a pedal like no other. In a world of me-too products they have broken the mold and the rules. But, you need to determine if the sounds it produces are a fit with your style and musical tastes. Only you can do that. I suggest you go to their site - sourceaudio - and check out their sound sample videos and audios, which are very well-done incidentally.
As always.....YMMV.........

CECILIO CEDB-1DW 3/4 Size ELECTRIC SILENT MAHOGANY METALIC UPRIGHT DOUBLE BASS Review

CECILIO CEDB-1DW 3/4 Size ELECTRIC SILENT MAHOGANY METALIC UPRIGHT DOUBLE BASS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This bass arrived dinged up with flaking paint exposing the wood. The end pin wobbles and feels like it will snap if weight is applied. Two strings broke when tightening for first tuning. The pickup sounds terrible and the line out jack is a 1/8" headphone size only and it doesn't even fit adapters or the stock cable correctly. The 1/8" to 1/4" cable arrived with no 1/4" end, it was just sheared off like someone took clippers to it. The extendable body rest doesn't lock in place and is shoddy at best. Over all this bass was a complete piece of junk. Buy something else

Traben Phoenix 4 - Blood Red 4-string Electric Bass Review

Traben Phoenix 4 - Blood Red 4-string Electric Bass
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So, looking for a lefty bass is always challenging. But when I saw the Traben Phoenix, I thought my prayers were answered - it was a case of immediate lust. However, my lust soon turned to disgust after I received my bass. It arrived looking beautiful, but I immediately discovered that the pot that controls the blending of each pickup was non-functional. Hanser Music, the distributor of Traben, would not allow me to have the bass looked at locally (there is no dealer within several hundred miles) and required me to send it back to them. It took over six weeks for them to repair the bass and get it back to me (requiring my purchase of a back up bass to continue my instruction) - and lo and behold when I finally got it back, there was a terrible hum when I plugged it in. Deciding to eat the cost, rather than have another interminable delay, I took it to a local repair shop where I discovered that the bass was not properly grounded. It cost me $40 to have it repaired. I will note that after a lot of back and forth with Hanser, they did reimburse me the $40. Unfortunately, the story does not end there - soon thereafter, the same pickup pot stopped working. I opened up the bass and discovered a very poorly soldered wire on the pot. I resoldered it myself and since them, the bass works properly.
While my Traben bass does look wonderful and sounds great, no one should have to worry about purchasing a new $600 instrument and having to deal with multiple problems necessitating the expenditure of much time and trouble. Traben manufactures the Phoenix in Korea and it appears that the quality control is very poor both in Korea and here in the US. While Hanser's customer service is very pleasant, it shouldn't have been that hard to check out the bass before both initial shipment to the dealer and before returning a defective product to the consumer. I would not recommend purchasing a Traben bass unless you have a local dealer who is prepared to stand behind the product.

Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-880 Rhythm Machine Review

Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-880 Rhythm Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, so there's a bit of a learning curve with this drum machine. You have to go into it knowing that. Also, you'd be an absolute fool to not also invest in the DVD manual. The DVD walks you through every single nuance of the DR-880 and you can easily index any portion of the DVD to learn the specific skill you need to learn for what you're trying to accomplish.
That being said, this thing is untouchable! There is no reason why anyone can't achieve the precise sound they're looking for with this drum machine. You can make it sound as synthetic or authentic as you need it to, depending upon the style of music you're creating. The bass guitars can be made to sound like fingers are sliding on the strings. The drums can be made to sound like there's a real drummer in the room inadvertently brushing and tapping his (or her) sticks on the snare between actual strokes. For those in the know, these are called "ghost notes," and the DR-880's got 'em!
You can record in step mode or real time... or a combination of both to get the exact sound quality, timing precision, velocity, and little nuiances you're looking for.
For guitarists, there are pre-programmed grooves, or you can use the EZ Compose feature to quickly give your jam a sick backbone in like seconds. So while there is a learning curve for composers, this thing is also very much a plug-and-play unit for someone who just needs a quick rhythm section to jam with. And check this out: This thing even has built-in Roland effect pedals and amp simulations built right in! From metal to jazz, chorus, distortion, 60's, 70's, and whatever the hell you need! You're getting literally thousands of dollars worth of top of the line Roland pedals built-in to it.
I use mine every single day and simply cannot recommend it enough to... well, anyone who is serious about recording, jamming out, or composing a professional sounding piece of music with complete and total control of the situation. I strongly urge anyone who buys this drum machine to get the DVD as well. Frankly, you'd be an idiot not to.
If you want to know what kind of amp is best for the DR-880, I run mine through a Roland KC-350 120W Keyboard Mixing Amp, and it sounds absolutely brilliant!

Ibanez AEB5E Acoutsic Electric Bass Black Review

Ibanez AEB5E Acoutsic Electric Bass Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just got one of these acoustic/electric bass guitars. I'm a six-string guitarist and this is my first bass. The finish is very nice for the price, especially the neck, which feels very good to me.
The sound this thing makes is great. Very warm and "woody," which is what I wanted. I've plugged it in, and electrified, it sounds like I expected it would (good). The on-board gain caused some feedback if I pushed it up too high, but it sounded over-boosted at that setting anyway. The tone sliders are dead silent and allow me to add some brightness for more of a Jazz Bass sound, or go muddy and bassy at the other end.
But I bought this for acoustic playing, and it's great for that. I cannot see the point in paying more for something else.

Hofner Icon Series Vintage Violin Bass Transparent Black Review

Hofner Icon Series Vintage Violin Bass Transparent Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To qualify this, I have only been playing the bass for a few months at the time I'm writing this review...
I fell in like with the look of the Hofner Icon at the local Guitar Center and bought it. After a month of practice, lessons, and research, I happened upon a Hofner 500/1 vintage '63 reissue violin bass (hand made in Germany) at a hole-in-the wall music shop in downtown Chicago and fell in LOVE with it and it's amazing flatwound strings! I dropped nearly $2,000 and brought this beautiful instrument (such high quality that it should qualify as a piece of furniture) and returned my Icon with no regrets.
I may actually purchase another Icon soon and throw some flatwound strings (Hofners from North Coast Music) and use it for my travel bass when on vacation.
Here's what you need to know about the available Hofner basses:
ICON ($400ish)
-Made in China with Chinese electronics that can be quirky
-Fit and finish is adequate for the price point
-Regular roundwound strings with some fret buzz depending on setup
-Hollow body
-A pain in the butt getting a case sometimes! Go EBay or Amazon!
-Available in lefty (often with a case oddly)
CONTEMPORARY ($700ish)
-Made in China with German electronics
-Fit and finish adequate...slightly better than the Icon
-Has regular roundwound strings
-Hollow body BUT has a sound block inside giving it more sustain and a more modern, hence "contemporary" bass sound
-Has a neck bridge so you can slap on a McCartney-style Hofner strap!
-Available in lefty I believe?
-No case
GERMAN-MADE HOFNERS ($2,000 +)
-Hand-made in the Fatherland
-Fit and finish are amazing! Beautiful wood, stain, finish, feel
-Hofner (Pyramid) flatwound strings that give the most mellow "thump" and feel like butter!
-Comes with either a German vintage bullet case or flight case
-Available in lefty of course!

Steinberger Spirit XT-2DB Standard Bass with DB-Tuner Black Review

Steinberger Spirit XT-2DB Standard Bass with DB-Tuner Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Been interested in the Steinberger since the mid-eighties but could never afford one. Been playing bass since the mid- 70s, off and on, and was playing regularly by the time the original Steinbergers came out. I was concerned about the construction and the sound, but they are both excellent. I was surprised how good this thing sounded right out of the box. I picked it up as a travel bass and have found myself playing it on a regular basis. The only minor issues are 1) due to the design the frets are 'shifted' making it a challenge to play without looking at your fretting hand, and 2) having to be stuck using the double ball strings. I've been using Rotosound and Dean Markley strings for years and it would be nice not to be limited to the double ball strings. The ability to drop tune is great. The XT2-DB detuner allows you to drop all the way down to a low B and it rivals the HipShot detuner on my custom P/J Hybrid bass. I don't use the feature much, but its good to know it's there if I need it. All things considered, this is an excellent bass for both beginner and mid-level players. For advanced players, this is a great travel bass to keep up your chops or play in small venues. Highly recommended!

Stunned, awesome, and the greatest bass purchase I have ever made. I've owned many in 40 years of playing. I have a VM Jazz for three years now and loved it til
I picked this thing up. I guess I got lucky because this item right out of the box, came in ready to play condition and is beyond cool and sounds just like the P basses of old. Available for 350 everywhere on the planet I walked into Best Buy and saw it labeled for 270 dollars. The model on the wall had been beat up by countless players so I asked if there was one in the box. There was! I opened and inspected right there and Voila I bought it! I just played it on my first gig last night and boy o boy oboy......Bandaroake never sounded better.....now the VM is the backup and the looks from the band guys were wow....you paid how much? they couldn't believe it....not one defect on this one....PLUG and Play.....Motown songs never sounded better! I would give it a six star rating if I could....
