Washburn Taurus Series T12MBL Electric Bass Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Washburn Taurus T12 bass to lay down my own bass tracks for home recording, and it has far exceeded what I expected to get for $116. I could tell this was a deeply discounted, quality instrument right away. It's nicely balanced, solidly constructed yet light, has great string action, and sounds fantastic. I would have no problem gigging with this bass, and it looks great too.
There are two knobs, one for volume, the other for tone, and two pickups that respond very well, offering a range of sounds, from low and soft, to a sharp "bite", depending on how the strings are picked. Obviously, if you're a professional musician, you'll want something much more expensive and handcrafted, but for a musician on a budget, the T12 is several notches above other basses I've tried in the same price range.

(More customer reviews)Plays very well, only complaints are in finish - obvious mismatched wood at foot of neck on front and back, needs finish on back of neck or wood needs to be polished smoother. Tone is good, tuning keys and electronics(passive) are good quality. Excellent value ($105.00), could sell for quite a bit more. Would rate quality and value similar but a little bit lower than low-end PRS guitars.

I purchased a Rogue 5 string bass for $100 and it had reasonable quality and good setup. No excuse for this. Contacted Washburn and they basically said I should pay to have the frets fixed...right.

Dean Edge 8-String Bass, Active Electronics, Classic Black Review

(More customer reviews)So, I decided to buy an 8-string and learn how to play it, since I was already uver-used to playing the 4-string. You know,I wanted that high-end dominance that the 8-string provides.
This bass does all of that, and has active pickups to boot. Not that they are particularly the best active pickups (the battery dies out a little early for my tastes), but they get the job done - and can blast the hell out of a sound system with an impressive overdrive knob.
The tone is really good, by all means. Unlike the Schecter Stilletto 8, the first few frets don't buzz when you use them, and the thing maintains the octave-harmonics effect even when you use tapping or slapping effects. The strings feel really good on the fingers, and it's no problem to slide while keeping an even sound. The only problem I have is that, if one tries to use an octave string alone, it will not sound off as highly as the fat strings, which makes it a little less fun.
I would say that this is a worthwhile buy for those just starting on the 8-string, because it is reliable, has one of the best sound-qualities, and fits a good budget at $500.

(More customer reviews)Everything about this bass makes it worth the great price, except for one major thing - the width of the fret board at the nut is a whopping 2+ inches! That is a very wide neck, which makes this bass a little tough to get around on. But if you can adjust to the oddly broad fingerboard, this bass really is a great value. Components, construction, fit, finish, and tone are all good - especially for this price.

(More customer reviews)Well I waited a few weeks to write this review to make sure I have a good handle on this guitar. Let me first say this is a great sounding bass. If you play any rock or even metal, this bass just shines. It has a nice growl to it. Its capable of many tones outside those genres, but that's where I feel this bass excels. The painted neck is a nice thru-neck that is thin and very easy fast. The body is beautifully sculpted and really stands out. I have had many compliments on its shape and sound. The finish is average, it looks beautiful but I have feeling it will scratch easy. The only real con I have to mention is it's a "Neck Diver". I'm not sure if Dean even took the time considering proper strap pin placement. I am definitely going to have to relocate these in order for it to be acceptable to me. So those not comfortable with relocating strap pins beware. The bridge is also an ABM style bridge which I really havent messed with much, but seems a little daunting to adjust. Outside of that I am really happy with the bass, but be sure to replace the factory strings with some quality strings.

(More customer reviews)I've read and researched as much as I could before buying a beginning bass. For being under $200 this is truly as good as it gets. I love the feel of this bass, the sound is great and it looks great. Just make sure you do a set up as all new stringed instruments require one. Initially the action was too low making fret buzz but after a set up the guitar works wonderfully. I had a bit of a problem since this packaged claimed to bring picks which mine did not but after calling Amazon they gladly gave me new ones. The DVD is good but I suggest looking else where to learn how to play. The DVD goes from learning positions (which is great) and how to move around to playing octaves and root notes. Basically it assumes you already known how to read notes or know where the notes on the fingerboard is.

This bass beats the fender's jazz bases by the sound it gives to you and to the audience and this will give you a better impression by the design and confterablilty you'll get when you are playing it. The exception of all the great things in this bass is where you insert the amp cable. It is very easy to break it and you'll have to repair several times if you are not careful with it but when it is delivered to you'll be amazed as I did when i first got it and started playing and you will not regret paying for those $300. The color is just beautiful and specially with the white design on top of the body.

(More customer reviews)First the bad. Tone and volume knobs all fell off and would not turn the pot. Knobs are nice heavy aluminum but they are set on top of a cheap plastic spacer with ridges that don't grab the knob. Easy fix.
The good. Neck straight, intonation set and surprisingly almost in tune. Sign that a reasonable setup was performed by the mfg. Pickups are very responsive and offer diverse tones. Tuners aren't bad either.
Overall, very nice for the price.
