Stunned, awesome, and the greatest bass purchase I have ever made. I've owned many in 40 years of playing. I have a VM Jazz for three years now and loved it til
I picked this thing up. I guess I got lucky because this item right out of the box, came in ready to play condition and is beyond cool and sounds just like the P basses of old. Available for 350 everywhere on the planet I walked into Best Buy and saw it labeled for 270 dollars. The model on the wall had been beat up by countless players so I asked if there was one in the box. There was! I opened and inspected right there and Voila I bought it! I just played it on my first gig last night and boy o boy oboy......Bandaroake never sounded better.....now the VM is the backup and the looks from the band guys were wow....you paid how much? they couldn't believe it....not one defect on this one....PLUG and Play.....Motown songs never sounded better! I would give it a six star rating if I could....

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Bass '77, Black Review

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Bass '77, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Squier Vintage Modified '77 Jazz Bass is an inexpensive jazz bass from Indonesia with good features and very good workmanship and is a great value for the money. Although mine was shipped with round-wound strings, I put on half-rounds for a somewhat mellower sound. But if you like rounds, you will love what you hear right out of the box.
The bass is black on black, with 'vintage' knobs, decent tuners, and the standard Fender-type bass bridge. I swapped out the bridge for a Gotoh 201 C and the difference was amazing: added clarity, better tone; and the 201, at $35, is heavy, solid, and inexpensive (from Warmoth). The swap is direct. Be aware that the 201 barrels are bigger than the ones you're replacing; a neck shim may be in order. (Not a big deal.)
A heavy bass, but nicely balanced. I use a broad leather strap with an unfinished underside for good grip, and I have no problems. Pickups are 'Duncan Designed' -- take that for what it's worth. Each alone is unremarkable, but when dialed up together the great, punchy jazz bass tone comes through.
The fretboard is nicely bound in white; fret markers are 'pearloid'; why don't they just call it plastic? The neck is satin-finish maple, narrow but not too shallow, very comfortable. Strap buttons are nice and secure, and all other hardware is snugly in place; nothing stripped, broken, or improperly aligned.
For my money, this is a bass that can do it all. Half-rounds mellow the tone a bit, but I can get a nice deep round tone or an aggressive punch simply by varying attack and juggling pickup tones.
$285 from a wholesaler that has 'sweet' in its name, plus $35 for the new bridge. Great value.

Epiphone Worn '66 Wilshire Electric Guitar Worn Cherry Review

Epiphone Worn '66 Wilshire Electric Guitar Worn Cherry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
PROS:
-For under 400 bucks this guitar sounds absolutely amazing.
-What really won me over with this guitar is the the mini-humbucker pick ups.
I've never encountered anything like it before, they give off incredibly warm clean tones
as well sweet distortion when played heavy. This is a major advantage for those with versatile tastes in music.
-If Fender and Gibson mated and had a baby this is what you would get.
The body is really slim and light weight. The guitar feels almost like a slender fender strat,
but plays with that power and boldness you only find in a Gibson.
CONS:
-The strings that came with the guitar however are total crap.
I removed them instantly and put on Gibson Humbucker strings.
With new strings it sounds a thousand times better.
-However one thing I am not used to is that the guitar is extremely slim and super light,
depending on what you are used to playing this could be an advantage. For me personally
I was playing a Gibson Les Paul Custom for years before, it was really thick and heavy.
So I am going through an adjustment period getting used to the feel of this body style.
-Really for the money and the value there is little room to complain.
OVERALL:
-This is an outstanding guitar and really easy to play.
Really smooth and just feels like butter in your hands.
If you want a sweet versatile guitar for under 400 bucks it doesn't get any better than this.

Squier by Fender Standard Telecaster, Vintage Blonde Review

Squier by Fender Standard Telecaster, Vintage Blonde
Average Reviews:

The photo makes it seem like you can see the grain through the finish, however it is an opaque finish that is more yellow than the photo. It also weighed a ton. Three stars is an average rating and not a bad rating. I have other Squire telecasters so I have nothing against the name.
The neck felt ok and the finish was fine. I didn't search hard for flaws before sending it back, but I didn't see any glaring flaws either. My main issues were the extreme weight and the discrepancy between the finish in the product photo and the actual guitar.

Dean Edge Bass Guitar, Quilt, 4-String with Bartolini Pickups Review

Dean Edge Bass Guitar, Quilt, 4-String with Bartolini Pickups
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Wow. Where to start....This bass is not your average Dean Edge bass. The Bartolini pickups make this bass shine. The bolt on neck is thin and fast. Finish is beautiful. I really have nothing bad to say about this bass. A bass that sounds this good at this price point is a no brainer. I replace the factory strings with D'Addario Chromes Flatwounds and it just sounds beautiful. At times you can get great deals on these basses, but even at 500.00 its sounds great.

Obviously the other rater has no clue as to how one goes about setting up a guitar. The Johnson Solara is the sweetest playing guitar I have ever owned, never buzzes and is perfect for my blues style play.
I would not hesitate to purchase another. In fact I own a Johnson Chicago blues resonator that plays just as easy.

Dean Edge 8-String Bass, Active Electronics, Classic Black Review

Dean Edge 8-String Bass, Active Electronics, Classic Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So, I decided to buy an 8-string and learn how to play it, since I was already uver-used to playing the 4-string. You know,I wanted that high-end dominance that the 8-string provides.
This bass does all of that, and has active pickups to boot. Not that they are particularly the best active pickups (the battery dies out a little early for my tastes), but they get the job done - and can blast the hell out of a sound system with an impressive overdrive knob.
The tone is really good, by all means. Unlike the Schecter Stilletto 8, the first few frets don't buzz when you use them, and the thing maintains the octave-harmonics effect even when you use tapping or slapping effects. The strings feel really good on the fingers, and it's no problem to slide while keeping an even sound. The only problem I have is that, if one tries to use an octave string alone, it will not sound off as highly as the fat strings, which makes it a little less fun.
I would say that this is a worthwhile buy for those just starting on the 8-string, because it is reliable, has one of the best sound-qualities, and fits a good budget at $500.

Hagstrom D15CE Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar w/ Hardshell Case Review

Hagstrom D15CE Solid Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar w/ Hardshell Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the price it's a good guitar. I wanted to add an Acoustic/Electric and since I love my Hagstrom Swede, I thought that I would stick with Hagstrom and give this one a shot.
It plays nice, has decent tone and the built-in equalizer gives me enough range (but I usually want to boost the low end). It doesn't have a tuner like most others these days, but that's not a big deal.
I'll be changing the strings as soon as I have time. I don't care for the ones that came with it. I'm having trouble keeping it in tune, but that could be the strings or the room it's staying in which will change temperature a lot this winter.
I'll also be filing down the first fret.
But once I start playing, it's a great feeling guitar with a lot of good tones. If you're looking for an affordable A/E - this one is worth looking at.
Update: With some new strings (Ernie Ball Earthwood Rock & Blues), the guitar sounds much better, and stays in tune well. Still at 4 stars.

Daisy Rock Rebel Rockit Supernova (Cosmic Pink) Review

Daisy Rock Rebel Rockit Supernova (Cosmic Pink)
Average Reviews:

My mom got me the rebel rockit guitar for my 12 birthday and it's the best present I have received ever! It's perfect because I can fit my fingers around it and the strings are closer to the fretbored so my fingers don't hurt after I play. If I can just play it all day and all night, I would. I play it everytime I take a break from doing my school work since I am a home school. I love my guitar so much. It is beautiful and easy to play. I recommend it to everybody that if you buy a gift for your child, get a daisy rebel rockit supernova. Your child will be very happy 100%. Sincerely, Nadine

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Tele SH, Metallic Red Review

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Tele SH, Metallic Red
Average Reviews:

My mother got this for me when I started guitar, I loved it imediately! It has a humbucker (top pickup), which is great for a les paul sound, like Jimmy Page, Angus Young, and other rockers. The single coil (back pickup) is a monster. It dominates the blues, like muddy waters, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and son house. This is a starter guitar, but works well, especially if you replace the strings with some super slinky's. I love it. (but save your money for a Gibson if you get really serious, like after a couple of years)

Dean Edge Quilt Top 5 String Bass Trans Blue Review

Dean Edge Quilt Top 5 String Bass Trans Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking to make the jump from a 4 string to a 5 string, without breaking the bank; this bass fit the bill. As with any stringed instrument, getting the right strings (personal preference), and adjusting accordingly, makes it all the more 'your' instrument. Drop the bass off w/ a professional if you are not comfortable adjusting an instrument yourself, its usually never costly(~$40 around my area), unless something is way wrong to begin with.
Having had the bass for awhile now, I must say I'm impressed in the quality for this price. Incredibly nice to play, many tonal options, and the awesome low end 'B'.

Dean Edge 6 String Bass Trans Amberburst Review

Dean Edge 6 String Bass Trans Amberburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love my Dean Edge 6. But I can't play it. And I can't get strings for it.
It's a beautiful instrument. The fit and finish is quite good for the price. It sounds great.
An accomplished bassist recommended that I get a six string. That was a HUGE mistake. This bass is a monster, and is no good for learning to play.
The biggest problem, however, is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get strings for this thing. All of the "Extra Long Scale" strings that I have tried begin to taper just shy of the nut. I contacted Dean and they told me that they string the bass with bulk D'Addario strings and that they couldn't recommend any set that I could buy. They suggested that I visit the nearest dealer . . . 600 miles away.
So, the instrument is terrific, Dean's customer service is WORTHLESS.
-Peter

Schecter Robin Finck Limited Edition Signature Model Electric Guitar - Red Nitro Review

Schecter Robin Finck Limited Edition Signature Model Electric Guitar - Red Nitro
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this guitar and I have to say that it is fantastic. It plays like butter! Plus the tone is very diverse. The duncan at the bridge has a very hot output, and the other duncan designed pickups sound great as well though not quite as hot. Each pickup has its own switch for single coil, humbucker, or off making the tonal options vast. The case it comes with is top notch as well. Plus, the Bigsby is a nice touch. The only thing this guitar doesn't have is a tone knob for each pickup, just one for over all tone and one volume, but you can't have everything.
For the price, you just can't beat this. It was up between this guitar and a Les Paul, and I just couldn't find a Les Paul for even 3 times the price that played better.
If you're mulling this one over, I say do it.

Schecter Solo Vintage Electric Guitar- See-Thru Cherry Review

Schecter Solo Vintage Electric Guitar- See-Thru Cherry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Schecter guitar is definitely great. I consider a masterpiece guitar, all of it's components are great quality, and the sound, is indisputable. The guitar is lightweight, very versatile, ease to play, and looks incredible. It is very simple to use, the 3 knobs are just perfect to control volume and tone, and push pull button to choose between humbucker and single coil is great, even though the humbucker option is great, it makes the guitar really boom, shouting out all the bass and treble possibilities of a guitar. With this option, and choosing you rythm of treble option, you can give this guitar a very deep and warm full of bass tones, very rich, or a very light trebly tone, and if you leave it in the microphone selector in the middle, youll get a full blend of a perfect combination between bassy and trebly tones.
