Ibanez AEB5E Acoutsic Electric Bass Black Review

Ibanez AEB5E Acoutsic Electric Bass Black

I just got one of these acoustic/electric bass guitars. I'm a six-string guitarist and this is my first bass. The finish is very nice for the price, especially the neck, which feels very good to me.
The sound this thing makes is great. Very warm and "woody," which is what I wanted. I've plugged it in, and electrified, it sounds like I expected it would (good). The on-board gain caused some feedback if I pushed it up too high, but it sounded over-boosted at that setting anyway. The tone sliders are dead silent and allow me to add some brightness for more of a Jazz Bass sound, or go muddy and bassy at the other end.
But I bought this for acoustic playing, and it's great for that. I cannot see the point in paying more for something else.

Kona Signature Series Electric Acoustic Bass with Tolex Case Review

Kona Signature Series Electric Acoustic Bass with Tolex Case
Average Reviews:

PROS: Nice Bass. Excellent price. Tone is excellent especially on a dedicated Bass amp. Looks Beautiful. Good controls. Quality Case. It works very nicely with the Roland Mobile Cube. Excellent Acoustic/Electric Bass for the Money. Also, tends to get some really cool/annoying harmonic feedback going. Was great fun playing around and seeing what it could do without blowing the amp. I don't recommend this practice for noobs tho cuz it can blow a good speaker if you aren't careful.
CONS: Keep in mind this is a JUMBO Bass. 34" frets. I'm kinda a short guy so this is a bit of a stretch for me. Also, tends to get some really cool/annoying harmonic feedback going. But it is easy to stop it and avoid it if you are careful. Glue used in the case construction really stinks. Odor wise that is.

Boulder Creek EBR3-N4F Acoustic-Electric 4-String Fretless Bass Review

Boulder Creek EBR3-N4F Acoustic-Electric 4-String Fretless Bass
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have searched far and wide for an acoustic bass that has good tone, volume, clarity and warmth. These basses have all four. I really just love these basses, the tone is just fantastic. The volume is way way better than other basses I have tried, largely due to the suspended bracing that lets the top move like a speaker cone. You can get a lot of volume if you really dig in, but it also has a great dynamic range you can get great tone playing soft and the harder you dig in the bigger the tone. These basses really sing and are a pleasure to play. They are by far the best I have found for less than $1000. Highly Highly recommended.

Offering a combination of traditional materials and high-tech design, this fretless 4-string acoustic-electric bass guitar from Boulder Creek (model EBR3-N4F) enables you to hear your playing without plugging it in. The side port on the top projects the deep tones from the body directly to the player while the additional front port shoots the low frequencies towards the audience. When plugged in, it keeps the same natural tone with much less feedback than other acoustic electric basses.
All Boulder Creek guitars feature solid tops, solid backs, and laminated sides for strength and durability. The EBR3-N4F uses Boulder Creek's Solitaire body, which employs the Suspended Bracing System (SBS). A departure from the traditional X-brace, the SBS employs a pair of parallel aluminum braces that are anchored at three points under the top, but are otherwise suspended like a pair of towel racks. This allows the top to vibrate more freely, improving projection. The area of the top is also greater, with a soundhole the size of half-dollar and a large oval port on the side, dramatically improving bass response.
It's also equipped with the AB4-T Active Balanced Acoustic System with on-board tuner. The specially designed cable-type saddle transducer reduces the "clunk" that is inherent in traditional piezo pickup systems. The AB4-T System also feature both balanced and unbalanced outputs for maximum signal and noise reduction in both stage and studio applications.

Breedlove Atlas Solo BJ350/CM4 Fretless Acoustic Electric Bass Review

Breedlove Atlas Solo BJ350/CM4 Fretless Acoustic Electric Bass

I have been playing bass on-and-off for about 20 years and this bass is, without a doubt, the best I've ever owned. Upon receiving it, I immediately changed the roundwound strings it came with to Fender stainless steel flatwounds and that was it. It feels great and the tone sounds beautiful when jamming. Comes with a heavy duty hardshell case.
I can't say enough good things about this bass and I highly recommend it.

Dean Performer Acoustic Electric Guitar Quilt Ash Gloss Natural Review

Dean Performer Acoustic Electric Guitar Quilt Ash Gloss Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is beyond good looking. I opened it, and I swear my pants got shorter, this thing has looks to spare. I can see me pulling more tail than a slow kid at a petting zoo with this beauty in my hands. The sound is underwhelming however. Open chords are weak, especially on the treble. This is probably because the top is a laminate, but I also suspect the nut has something to do with it. Dean makes some fantastic looking specimens, but looks are only half the of what makes a guitar.
Edit: After careful inspection, I found that the nut was the culprit. I took it to the shop and got the grooves re-cut and now this beast has the looks and the sound to kill. I never thought I'd find perfection in an acoustic guitar under $1000, but I believe I have. Also, I just found out it has a built in tuner. I am not going to tell you where, but just look for a switch that says tuner, and then close your jaw. I love this guitar.

Dean Tradition Acoustic Guitar, Exotic Birds Eye Maple Review

Dean Tradition Acoustic Guitar, Exotic Birds Eye Maple
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing my "Dean Tradition Acoustic Guitar, Exotic Birds Eye Maple" ever since I received it this evening; I've taken a break to upload some pictures and write an initial review.
It is a very attractive instrument...well-constructed with nice details...and has decent action & volume...its pitch is somewhat bright, which I like, as it provides a contrast to my warmer cedar-top Seagull.
Here are Dean's specifications, directly from their web site:
"TRADITION EXOTIC
* Solid Spruce Top
* 5 Body Types Available (see below)
* 25-1/2" Scale
* Mahogany Neck
* Rosewood Fingerboard
* Pearl Dot Inlays
* Sealed Die Cast Tuners
* Celluloid Binding
* Woodcut Mosaic Rosette
* Finishes: Birds Eye Maple, Mapa Burl, Lacewood, Zebra, Quilted Ash"
I believe that the Birds Eye Maple covering the sides/back is a veneer over a mahogany underlayment.
Generally, the guitar was finished with good attention to detail: the only undesireable things that stood out to me [but were not 'deal-breakers' and may not matter as much to other folks] are:
* a few flecks & chips of wood embedded in the gloss finish
* the veneer is not aligned well [ie, the Birds Eye pattern is not matched up closely on the sides...I'm posting a photo to explain better].
* of more importance...at least, to me, since I initially ordered my guitar based on Amazon's "Product Features," which, as of this writing states "Machine Heads: Grover"...is that this guitar DOES NOT have "Grover" machine heads. It apparently has ones made by "Ping" [this is what I was told when I contacted Dean...and I also asked them why more than one website says "Grover" but they couldn't tell me]. If anyone is really hankering for Grovers, they'll probably have to plan on spending at least $50 to upgrade...just an FYI.
My pictures that I uploaded to the gallery will tell the rest of the story...excuse me while I get back to playing my new baby ;-)

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar with Tuner Preamp Trans Purple Review

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar with Tuner Preamp Trans Purple

It sounds really good for its price. You won't regret buying this as your first guitar. But you won't really appreciate its sounds for the price, unless you've had several guitars before. Don't fall in love with the purple in the picture, though. I did and I was disappointed. But if you want an affordable, great sounding, purplish guitar, this is a definite buy.

Dean Exotica Cocobolo Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Dean Exotica Cocobolo Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this guitar today.
This guitar is a thing of beauty, the wood is beautiful and the binding is incredible.
I have not seen craftsmanship like this in a long time.
The guitar has a nice tone and the action is good, right out of the case.
Even without an amp it is loud enough to be heard.
The on board tuner is great and very handy. their symbol lights up both wings when the right pitch for the string is reached.
The on board electronics are very nice and when i plugged it into the amp I must have pushed the volume up, it got my attention in a hurry.
(of course the wife says, Turn that down)
Over all this is one heck of a nice guitar.
If you love exotic wood, this is a great guitar to own.
