I've owned and played some extremely nice guitars over the years. I had never even played a Squire before, so I really didn't know what to expect from Fender's cheaper cousin... However, after the guitar arrived and I stretched out the strings enough for it to stay in tune, I was pretty blown away that you could get such a nice guitar for $229 and free shipping.
Everything about the guitar is pretty awesome. It looks and plays better than it has any right to. I can't speak for any of the other Squire models, but this thing is a steal. I really wouldn't feel bad having this as my main guitar. The sound is great and it's easy to play.

My mother got this for me when I started guitar, I loved it imediately! It has a humbucker (top pickup), which is great for a les paul sound, like Jimmy Page, Angus Young, and other rockers. The single coil (back pickup) is a monster. It dominates the blues, like muddy waters, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and son house. This is a starter guitar, but works well, especially if you replace the strings with some super slinky's. I love it. (but save your money for a Gibson if you get really serious, like after a couple of years)
