Parker Fly Mojo - Natural Mahogany Finish with Deluxe Parker Hardshell Case Review

Parker Fly Mojo - Natural Mahogany Finish with Deluxe Parker Hardshell Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My guitar is the Parker Fly Mojo model in clear coat Honduran Mahogany and with the metal flake brown-bronze back. My comments do not apply to any of Parker's bolt-on neck or foreign made guitars - I have only played two and both were in a different league from a set neck, domestically made Fly.
After the odyssey through Fenders, Gibsons, a Rick, and a Hofner, I have been finding myself using this guitar most of all. You should know that I have not gigged in years, I rarely take a guitar out of the house, and I play daily for my own enjoyment and occasionally with a friend, so my preferences and needs may not be the same as yours.
Some real plusses for me:
1.Truly great craftsmanship. The guitars made since Parker sold out are at least as well made as those before. Fit and finish are second to none.
2.Very versatile array of sounds. The Seymour Duncan humbuckers can replicate so many guitars, and the proprietary piezo-tremolo unit works better than any I have used. The piezo sounds a lot like an acoustic guitar that is equipped with a piezo bridge and it would come in handy for those who only want to schlep one guitar to a gig. Using the stereo cord that comes with the fly, and doing what they suggest, playing the humbuckers through your guitar amp and the piezo through the PA, you get a really nice differentiation of electric and acoustic.
3.The way the carbon fiber fretboard reinforces the neck is great. This guitar stays in tune, even with the tremolo unlocked. The fret board is always smooth when doing extreme bends (I just played my Tele with a one-piece cocobolo neck and noticed the difference right away.) Stainless steel frets are a plus for longer wear and are easy to keep shiny, particularly since they came from the factory without needing any dressing.
4.I like Sperzel tuners a lot and have put them on most of my Fenders. This also contributes to staying in tune.
5.The guitar is light at no more than 5 pounds. With many of the most popular guitars weighing in at twice that weight or more, the difference is very noticeable when grabbing it off the stand by the heck from the coach, for example (I do that a lot), or when standing up with it on for a while. I had though that sustain was greatly influenced by the weight of the guitar as physics suggests it should, but I have come to think that rigidity is a much more significant factor in sustain based on my experience with this Fly.
6.The neck is very thin. I like this for `living-room playing' and it can help my speed in reaching for a fret or jumping around the positions on the neck. When people try the Fly they always remark on the thinness of the neck and how `playable' it is compared to their favorite guitars.
7.Balance is tremendous. That long top bout puts the strap button just where is should be to let you take your hand off the neck without fear of the neck nose-diving towards the floor.
8.Visual appeal. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but even those who do not relish the design have to admit that it is a great piece of sculpture.
On the not-so-plus side:
1.The case. Although this is a guitar review, since the case comes with it I feel that is is fair game. The case is poor quality, poor design, and flimsy. There are two Parker hard shell cases and I am panning the one with the big "Parker" embossed on the front. There is another Parker HSC with a small "Parker" embossed in the lower left corner of the front and I am thinking that I will get one of those. Parker sells the big logo version on their website; the one I am looking for is available from the big music stores for a little over a hundred.
2.The thin neck. Okay, you're right, I listed this as a plus, too, but I find that my hand can get a little cramped-up when playing long and hard. Otherwise, no problem. I take breaks, and besides, my hand cramps-up sometimes when I'm not playing the Parker.
3.Battery. Although it is easy to get to and swap for a new one, and the piezo requires it, and it's expected to last for over a hundred hours, it seems that I am replacing it more frequently than I should have to; maybe I'm inaccurate on this. A second battery holder might be nice. For now, I just keep a spare in the case (yeah, the case I hate.) When considering new guitars for the collection, I tend to shy away from those requiring a battery; I also have become much fonder of hard-tails - I hardly ever use a tremolo anyway.
4.Slide. This is a poor choice to set-up as a slide guitar. For slide use, I favor the old and heavy solid bodies where the neck is thick and the frets aren't so great any more. Also, I don't like to get my slides (I use the big, thick, heavy brass slides) anywhere near a guitar with a finish I want to preserve. They eventually will take a toll.
I really like this guitar and if it disappeared, I would buy another. If you see one in a music shop, by all means, pick it up and try it. You won't pull any muscles in your arm when you lift it!

Washburn Jazz Series J3TSK Electric Guitar
I found this guitar on Amazon.com and immediately liked the looks of it. I found the description on Amazon to be a little confusing because there were two different descriptions. I finally looked it up on the Washburn web site. When I received the guitar I was pleased to find that it included a pretty descent HS case. When you receive the guitar you will immediately want to change the strings and do your own set up. I had been looking for a guitar made in the USA. The description on Amazon did not state where it was manufactured (China). The description did not list it coming with the HS case. I assumed that it would as that is how it is listed on the Washburn web site. Given the price of the guitar you realize up front that the quality will not be as good as a $1000 guitar. When I received it I was pleasantly surprised. I feel that it would compare nicely to a $1000 guitar.

CON:
The weight balance makes it a little hard to play standing, but easy to adapt.
HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!!!

A true icon guitar, the SG was originally a successor Les Paul model from '61 to '68. This edition of the prized 1962 SG boasts the power and merciless sustain you expect to shake you all night long. It's constructed of a Mahogany neck glued into a Mahogany body with twin Alnico Classic Humbucking pickups.

The Power and Merciless Sustain You Expect.

Angled Headstock Unlike cheaper designs, all Epiphones feature a 14-degree headstock that gives you more pressure at the nut and so you get more sustain with less tuning hang-ups caused by "string-tree" gadgets.
Double-Waxed Pickups Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures optimum performance. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is put in place to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax.
Output Jack To increase reliability and ensure consistent performance, Epiphone's proprietary output jacks feature an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel.
Toggle Switches All Epiphones feature our all-metal, USA designed switches for reliable contact and longer life.
Tunomatic Bridge Fully adjustable, the tunomatic remains a classic after over 50 years. Unlike guitars fitted with tremolos, there are no tuning or re-stringing difficulties. Plus, tone and sustain are improved because all string vibrations are transferred directly to the guitar.
Potentiometers Epiphone is passionate about performance. That's why their instruments use one-inch diameter potentiometers for better "throw," longer life and reliable service.
Quick-Connectors For unequalled reliability as well as ease of service, Epiphone wiring harnesses feature quick-connectors.

Fernandes Nomad Standard Electric Guitar - Hot Rod Flames Review

Fernandes Nomad Standard Electric Guitar - Hot Rod Flames
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my Nomad (aka ZO-3) when I was living in Japan in '95, and it's held up like it was brand new.
(ZO-3 = ZOsan. "Zo" means elephant. 3 is "san" in Japanese. Mr. Elephant And if you look at it, it looks kinda like an elephant.)
The sound it is able to put out with just a 9 volt battery is amazing for such a small guitar! And the rock-n-roll feedback has that Hendryx love to it. (Not that I could ever play like that - ever...)
It's my favorite guitar!
Right now it's being used in a faux documentary of a band trying to make it big in Japan - as the band walks down the streets playing it, and the bass version of it.
I just hope that the cops don't take it away as they walk down the street - it can crank up that much sound!
It's well worth the money!

Michael Kelly Patriot Limited Electric Guitar, Bubinga Review

Michael Kelly Patriot Limited Electric Guitar, Bubinga
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a decent guitar for the money($489).It has pretty good hardware. The bridge, nut, fretboard, neck, body, and tuners are solid. The body is mahogany back, maple top,and spalted maple veneer on top of the maple top.I really wish it was'nt veneer on top.The abalone inlays on fretboard look really nice.I was'nt that impressed with the Rockfield SWC pickups.I think they might be good for classic rock. They just were not high enough output for me.The frets were not level on one side of the neck so I had to send it to Michael Kelly to fix it.Plays fine now,the action is a little higher than I want it but it can't be lowered anymore(buzzing). The access to the 22nd frets is very difficult and is a reason for me to sell this guitar. If you want a Les Paul copy I think this is one of the better ones out there, just make sure it's set up right and the frets are level.

Washburn Idol Series WI64BK Electric Guitar Review

Washburn Idol Series WI64BK Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This particular higher-end permutation of the popular Idol series offers very solid features for an instrument at this price point. The Buzz Feiten tuning system--coupled with the 18:1 Grover machine heads-- virtually guarantees perfect intonation and ease of tuning, and the VCC knobs (in place of standard tone controls) has the overall effect of both a tone control and coil splitter, with the zero setting offering sparkling single-coil, Strat-like clarity with the noiselessness of a humbucker. Cranking to 10 produces high-gain, classic humbucker sounds, and experimenting with any in-between combination with either or both of the two VCC knobs can produce a decent replication of virtually any other pickup sound you'd possibly want, from P-90's to lipsticks. The neck is fast and smooth, though a bit narrow for some players.
The only glaring flaw is the lack of good finish workmanship, and trading off stellar performance for cheaper (albeit relatively unimportant) parts. The three-way pickup selector switch on my brand new (at the time)guitar broke off at the tip after about a week (easily replaced for a couple of dollars at the local Guitar Center) and the nut at the output jack worked itself almost completely off in about the same amount of time. Several screws (truss rod cover, pickup mountings and elsewhere) were similarly loose and had to be snugged down
For playability and versatility at this price, you really can't do much better. This thing was an Guitar World Editor's Choice for "Best Guitar under $1000" the year it debuted back in 2004 or 2005. If slightly higher quality hardware had been used and setup finish had been properly done, this guitar would be close to perfect.

Dean ML Bolt On Guitar, Metallic White with Matching Headstock Review

I've been playing guitar for 9 years, and bought all my guitars from Musician's Friend.....until now. I found this one on Amazon. I bought it with full intention to replace both pickups with Seymour Duncan's. Well, i was sadly mistaken!!! I plugged this bad boy in, and WOW. The sound was amazing, and it was just the tone i was looking for. I use a Boss ML-2 pedal and a Randall RX120RH half stack- and it sounds amazing!! It arrived right on time, well-packaged, and no sign of defects. The only thing is that it could use a floyd rose, but hey, what do you expect for 230 bucks. I am very happy with this guitar and will definitely buy from Amazon again.

Ion iGP03C Electric Guitar Kit with Gig Bag Review

Ion iGP03C Electric Guitar Kit with Gig Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i bought this guitar and i was very happy with it as i knew nothing about guitars, i then compared this to other guitars like fender, gibson and ibanez and i was shocked. I have been playing guitar for 3 years now and i am now a proud owner of a gibson les paul. This guitar has no tone, it doesn't give you the feel other guitars give you. The pickups are lifeless, the tone and volume controls get wobbly after a few touches and the 5-way selector feels cheap. The amp is ok for starters but the lead that comes with it makes a horrible buzzing sound which gets higher when you put on distortion and turn the volume up, so aslong as you buy a new cable the amp should be ok.
If you really want a guitar worth your money at this price then go for a fender squier strat which has just about everything this pack has but the guitar and amp are so much better, even if the amp is 10-WATT on the fender and its 15-WATT on the ion version, the fender sounds so much more lively

Godin Summit CT - Sunburst Flame 6-string Electric Guitar Review

Godin Summit CT - Sunburst Flame 6-string Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had a Summit for a little over a year now and I love this guitar. It's super powerful and gets great full, rich tones all along the fretboard. It's also surprisingly versatile for such a heavy guitar; with the HDR off the neck pickup can get an almost Fendery, open tone, but the bridge pickup with HDR on just screams. I've had a number of producers and engineers compliment this guitar and tell me how surprised they are by how great it sounds. While recording last year I even passed over an old Les Paul to use the Godin instead! It also plays better than a lot of Pauls, having a thinner body and much friendlier neck profile. Highly recommended.

Michael Kelly Patriot Decree MKPDBK Electric Guitar Review

Michael Kelly Patriot Decree MKPDBK Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Michael Kelly's Patriot Decree is fairly good guitar. Not a brilliant one, but Patriot Decree will serve you until you decide it's time to go for a bit more expensive guitar. You will not go wrong if you go ahead with Patriot Decree.
Some say that the average is golden, and maybe that is true for Michael Kelly's Patriot Decree as well. There are musicians who would like to see more features on Patriot Decree, but Michael Kelly felt that Patriot Decree provides enough features for a given price and the market that Michael Kelly shoots for. Perhaps there are better equipped guitars then this one, but Patriot Decree will deliver for what it's built for.
You can plug this baby into a toaster and, God knows, maybe it would sound as great as it does with any other amp. Seriously, Michael Kelly made a Patriot Decree, a terrific sounding instrument that deserves all the praise it can get. There is simply no need to change anything stock-provided parts built into this axe, as it sounds professional all the way. Michael Kelly's Patriot Decree is a over the top sounding instrument.
Though it could be better, action of Michael Kelly's Patriot Decree is not that bad at all. It may lose tuning when mistreated, but it's easily returned in tune in no time. You won't be put down while playing by Patriot Decree's neck. Guitar does feel a bit cheaper, but it will last you a long time if you handle it with care each instrument should be getting anyhow.
Some might say that Michael Kelly didn't go all the way in providing a reliable and durable instrument, but Patriot Decree isn't that bad. It will serve you well most of times, though you should be wary and have backups in situations where you feel Patriot Decree might let you down, such as gigs and studio sessions.

Agile AL-2000 Electric Guitar in Cherry Sunburst Flame Review

Agile AL-2000 Electric Guitar in Cherry Sunburst Flame
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my guitar about a month ago, and wanted to play with it for a while before I gave my review, as this is my first guitar.
IF YOU BUY this guitar (which I highly recommend you do if you're looking for a good beginner/intermediate (maybe even expert, from the reviews I've read) guitar), then do yourself a favor and replace the strings right away, they're so horrible that they're worth replacing with cheap strings from WalMart!
Otherwise, it plays great, amazing action right out of the box, neck is as STRAIT as a freaking laser beam, perfectly set-up guitar, the only guitar I think I'll ever see that actually gets sharper as it goes out of tune rather than flatter (I swear this actually happens, the neck isn't bending back or anything, like I said, it's strait!), but it only did that until I replaced the strings, now it stays perfectly in tune, I only need to retune it if I put it in my bag and the knobs get nudged around. Sounds great, sustain is practically twice as long as my crappy bass, it just keeps going like the energizer bunny!
Now on to the looks. This is a beautiful guitar, beautiful wood grain, amazing finish, and about the only thing that I take pride in keeping clean. My bass just gets put in its corner when it wants me to clean it. I love this guitar like it's my child. I would love to practice at work, but I'm way too afraid of it getting stolen. If this guitar ever does leave me though, I would hands-down buy the exact same one not only because of it's great price, but because it's just a great and beautiful guitar.
And finally, at only $200, what do you have to loose?

BLACK ELECTRIC GUITAR Review

BLACK ELECTRIC GUITAR
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have one of these LI15 guitars. It was purchased in a packaged that was dented and bruised. Out of the box, the guitar had great action and horrible amplification. It took some electronic technician skills to remove a short in the guitar controls and two soldering flaws in the amp. Once done, this was a professional instrument. Its string action is better than guitars costing twice as much. My guess is that this is produced on the same line as the Washburn WI15.
Maybe the need for the extra work should have caused it to rate a lilttle less than 5 stars. But it's fixed and I feel as if I have a real bargain now.

When shopping for a semi hollow, I kept looking back to this guitar. After playing Gretch and Gibsons at well over twice the cost, I couldn't deny that this provided all the warmth and roundness I was looking for. I've had it over ten years, touring and the only problem came from another player breaking off the toggle switch. Hardly a fault of the guitar's. Great buy.
