Gibson LES PAUL STD 50'S NECK Review

Gibson LES PAUL STD 50'S NECK
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was undecided between a Fender and a Gibson Les Paul. I checked out U-tube reviews and sounds and took the leap of faith and purchased the 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard with 50's neck. WOW. Say it with me now... WOW. Absolutely beautiful fit and finish on this guitar. This is the type of guitar that you pass down to your children. It has a very throaty voice unlike the Fenders. Fenders were very twangy to me and that's fine if you like that sort of sound. Not for me. The guitar has a very ballsy/throaty/blues-rock sound to it. I have it paired with a Line 6 75 watt amp. They are a very good pairing. You'll love this amp as well. It provide hundreds of different sounds at the touch of several buttons. However, lets get back to this guitar. I know it's a lot of money, but you will not be disappointed. Holds it tune, and is a bit lighter as well. This is the type of instruments that you have a hard time putting down since it sounds soooo good.

Agile AL-2000 Blue Flame Review

Agile AL-2000 Blue Flame
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing guitar and recording for over 40 years. I have owned just about every guitar there is including custom built ones and Gibson Les Paul guitars from the 70's. I currently own 5 Agile guitars and am very happy with them.
The Agile AL-2000 looks plays and sounds wonderful. Agile makes many upgrades to this model the 2000 being the base model. It is inexpensive but not a "cheap" guitar.
Agile guitars are made in Korea in the same facilities that produce guitars for the "big name" manufacturers. Rondo has them built to their specifications and is the direct importer who sells direct to the customer. An equivalent Epiphone would cost hundreds of dollars more than the Agile. Rondo music stands behind their products and Kurt who runs Rondo is easy to deal with and very helpful in answering questions and resolving any issues with his products.
The only upgrade I might do on the AL-2000 is to add Duncan JB and Jazz pickups. However it sounds so good at the moment I keep putting it off. Agile also makes some absolutely beautiful upgraded versions of this model with gorgeous real abalone and pearl inlay.
Don't be put off by the low price it's an absolutely great guitar!

Epiphone Prophecy Futura Custom FX (Floyd, EMG-81/85 Pickups) Review

Epiphone Prophecy Futura Custom FX (Floyd, EMG-81/85 Pickups)
Average Reviews:

I'll be honest. I don't think this guitar is for everyone. Other than receiving the actual guitar in a mess (de-tuned, very very very low action, ridiculous unplayable buzzing and offset bridge etc, etc....don't worry... did not buy it from this particular seller XD), After i got it fixed, it played excellent. I can't judge it too harshly because i've been playing a jackson rr-3 for 2 years, and the floyd rose on that particular model of guitar is completely flush with the body, and i know most floyds are not, but rather raised, above the body. Also, the pick-ups are a bit too close together for my liking, and i have a really hard time getting harmonics out of the g-string, but that's just my experience, and i would say 'because of that' but i really don't know if that's the cause. And of course it's about twice the weight of an rr3 so you get a bit sore after a while, but i can't complain about that. Other than that, it has a nice fast neck, reasonably slim, plays nice, but pick-ups seem a bit over-responsive.

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry Sunburst Review

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got a cherry burst traditional pro. Good sound, but the bridge pick up is so bright that It verges on shrill. You just got to turn down the tone a little. I took off the pick guard because it shows more of the sunburst. When playing with a lot of drive and distortion, the sound is very articulate. You also get the typical les Paul sound. You can make out individual notes a little better than my faded cherry studio when using a lot of distortion. I love the Grover locking tuners. Split pickups are okay, but you don't get as much of a sound difference as with the split pickups in my spalted maple telecaster.
The body is weight relieved, not chambered. The guitar is cheaper than a les paul standard.
The knocks, in single coil mode, still sounds like a les Paul, it's a heavy guitar, the surface has okay grain but it it's not a plus.
This guitar has a lot of great features, split coil, locking tuners, traditional les Paul sound, good price (if you are more price sensitive, the faded studios are great), and looks pretty good. My most played guitar.

Obviously the other rater has no clue as to how one goes about setting up a guitar. The Johnson Solara is the sweetest playing guitar I have ever owned, never buzzes and is perfect for my blues style play.
I would not hesitate to purchase another. In fact I own a Johnson Chicago blues resonator that plays just as easy.

Epiphone LP Standard Plus-Top Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Trans Amber Review

Epiphone LP Standard Plus-Top Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Trans Amber
Average Reviews:

I've had one of these amber Les Pauls for several years now. Mine has Grover tuners on it, but it's the same axe. It's an excellent value- construction is very good and so is the fit and finish. Looks sharp too. Mine has cream binding and amber skirted knobs, although they are not vintage correct. I would recomend this axe to anyone looking a for a Les Paul style guitar. The crappy stock strings should be replaced right away with some decent ones- I use Ernie Ball Slinkys... I also replaced the stock pickups- they are muddy and un-focused. Inexperinced players may be quite satisfied with them. Warning: If you replace any parts you will void the warranty!!! That's okay. Just take it to a guitar shop and have them set the intonation on the guitar-that's kind of tricky to do yourself. Some good strings and you've got yourself a pretty good LP- better than the cheap ones all over the internet. It's not a Gibson, but it's not $3,ooo.oo either...

Agile AL-2000 Black Cherry Flame Electric Guitar Review

Agile AL-2000 Black Cherry Flame Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

If you are looking for a Les Paul copy, this is the guitar to get.
Fit and finish are EXCELLENT, fret work is EXCELLENT, playability is EXCELLENT and the tone is very good.
I've played a bunch of Epiphone Les Pauls and to my ears, the tone of the Agile is much fuller and complex. I would classify the Epi's tone as "mid-rangy". This guitar almost sounds like it has single coils, almost chimey.
I only gave the tone "very good" because what I was really looking for in tone was something similar to a Les Paul Recording or 56 Les Paul black beauty with single coils. If you have ever heard Les Paul at the Iridium in NYC, you know what I'm talking about. Of course these guitars can cost over 20 times the Agile.
This guitar is definately a keeper. If you are considering an Epi Les Paul, you should take a look at the Agile 2000

Agile AL-2000 Electric Guitar in Cherry Sunburst Flame Review

Agile AL-2000 Electric Guitar in Cherry Sunburst Flame
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my guitar about a month ago, and wanted to play with it for a while before I gave my review, as this is my first guitar.
IF YOU BUY this guitar (which I highly recommend you do if you're looking for a good beginner/intermediate (maybe even expert, from the reviews I've read) guitar), then do yourself a favor and replace the strings right away, they're so horrible that they're worth replacing with cheap strings from WalMart!
Otherwise, it plays great, amazing action right out of the box, neck is as STRAIT as a freaking laser beam, perfectly set-up guitar, the only guitar I think I'll ever see that actually gets sharper as it goes out of tune rather than flatter (I swear this actually happens, the neck isn't bending back or anything, like I said, it's strait!), but it only did that until I replaced the strings, now it stays perfectly in tune, I only need to retune it if I put it in my bag and the knobs get nudged around. Sounds great, sustain is practically twice as long as my crappy bass, it just keeps going like the energizer bunny!
Now on to the looks. This is a beautiful guitar, beautiful wood grain, amazing finish, and about the only thing that I take pride in keeping clean. My bass just gets put in its corner when it wants me to clean it. I love this guitar like it's my child. I would love to practice at work, but I'm way too afraid of it getting stolen. If this guitar ever does leave me though, I would hands-down buy the exact same one not only because of it's great price, but because it's just a great and beautiful guitar.
And finally, at only $200, what do you have to loose?

Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Custom Silverburst Review

Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Custom Silverburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this guitar, first and foremost, because I am a huge Tool fan and I love the look of of Adam's Gibson Silverburst. Secondly, I love the look, feel and sound of the Les Paul Studio (although technically this is a Les Paul Custom, but its still a Studio design). Also I very much prefer the tone switch to be in the location it is on LP studios.
That being said, You should know that this guitar is among the higher end Epiphone LPs. I also own another Epi LP Studio, a cheaper model, which I can tell you has much less attention to detail. It's still a good guitar because it has it has great tone at a low cost, but the look of it isnt that sharp. The finish on those guitars isnt as nice as what you get here with the Silverburst. You may have heard horror stories about the frets popping out on those low cost Epi LPs but that has never happened on mine.
But Back to the Silverburst... The look of this guitar is stunning. The paint job and finish is excellent, really slick from bottom to top, front to back. The chrome hardware looks great too and seems to be really good quality... not just a cheap chrome finish on some mystery metal or something. The inlay on the fretboard and headstock are great too, very shimmery and marbley (if those are words).
In terms of hardware; The pickups sound great. Lots of tonal color and good harmonic response. I have noticed I have to crank my amp up a bit to get good feedback, but thats sort of the nature of feedback. The tone switch is well built, as in it stays put and doesnt wobble about. I've seen tone switches that basically unscrew during use to the point where they are at a 30-45 degree angle from their orignial position. This doesnt happen on this guitar. The switch itself does pop a tiny bit when switching between pickups... I dont mind it that much, but its worth saying. The frets are more rounded and stick out from the finger board more than a Gibson would. This can become an issue if you really push hard on the string because you can push the note from in-tune to sharp without really "bending" the string. This isnt an issue unique to this guitar, from what i've seen this is fairly common-place with all Epiphones. It doesnt really become a problem unless you are strangling the neck. The action out of the box is set a bit high; To the point where as you move up on the neck the notes tend to go sharp, which basically destroys any chords you play past the 12th fret. All i had to do was lower the action to resolve this problem. Even with that, i notice no fret buzzing anywhere on the guitar. The tuners work great... they ARE Grover tuners. I have no complaints with there. My biggest complaint with this guitar is the Nut (this was an issue with my other LP Studio too and is a common issue with lots of guitars that havent been customized). It grabs and can make tuning a real pain. This issue has improved somewhat since I bought the guitar, probably because with play and repeated tunings the strings have likely filed the nut a little bit. There are many solutions to this problem however; file the nut down yourself, buy some graphite and rub it in the nut under the strings, or you can actually use the graphite "lead" from pencils, or you can actually replace the nut with a graphite nut. Graphite essentially acts as a lubricant which stops the strings from binding... it has to do with the atomic structure of graphite, it doesnt take lateral tension very well. Idealy, apart from replacing the nut, a combination of these solutions is best.
Now the big question, Tone; I will keep this short and sweet. I like a wide variety of tone in the music I play. Depending on your amp and effects setup you can greatly effect the tone coming from the guitar. This guitar is heavy and has a really thick rich tone. Most LP's do. If you are after that Gibson sound, you've got it here. I've sized this guitar up with Gibson LPs and its up to par for sure. I've played this guitar and a Gibson LP back to back on the same amp with the same effects and settings and I saw no real noticiable change in tone. Tool songs sound perfect on this guitar, as do cleaner, bluesier tones. Lighter tones are certainly attainable on this guitar as well... but just about any tone is possible these days with all the electronic weaponry out there. Another thing I would like to mention is that this guitar has no buzz AT ALL. It's really well built in that respect, everything is grounded. You can play loud and when you stop the strings, its quiet(provided you havent cranked the amp so high you get feedback from nothing). Getting back to that Epi vs Gibson tone arguement though; It's worth saying that my dad owns 3 Gibsons (2 Electric - a LP Recording and a Firebird, and 1 acoustic) and he recently bought an Epiphone Flying V and right now, THAT guitar is his pride and joy.
All in all, If you are looking for a quality Gibson sound at an affordable price, Epiphone is the way to go. More specifically, If you are after an Epi LP; while I have no complaints with tone and no significant complaints in construction of the cheaper Epi LPs... I would definitely recommend going with one from their Les Paul Custom line (which is what the Silverburst falls under). They are about double the cost, but the attention to detail is palpable. If you can put down a few hundred extra, go for it. Get a guitar like this. And narrowing the scope even further, if you are like me and you love Tool, really like LPs, love that silverburst paintjob and are on a limited budget... then look no further, you found your guitar. The only thing I would recommend is to try to buy it below $[...]. I've seen them range from $[...], so do some looking around.

ESP LTD Deluxe EC1000 Electric Guitar (See Thru Black Cherry) Review

ESP LTD Deluxe EC1000 Electric Guitar (See Thru Black Cherry)

I have been playing for about 20 years. I have gone through many quality guitars and amps and I consider myself a professional when it comes to guitars and amps. Guitars should be rated by tone, hardware, playability, feel and value. I have an ESP LTD Deluxe EC-1000 Gold-top model with Seymour Duncan Alnico 2 Pickups and it is my absolute favorite guitar I own. It's got the action, speed and playability of a high end Ibanez or Jackson (or ESP), it's got the sweet tone and sustain of my USA Fender Stratocaster and Gibson Les Paul Standard but with it's own voice, the hardware's quality is outstanding (better than most guitars costing 2x this) and all of this for under $1000! Incredible. I don't know how ESP did it, but they did and I am looking forward to buying more of their Deluxe 1000 models!

El slogan que tiene Gibson lo define todo... "Only a Gibson is good enough".

I purchased this exact model one year ago, and had owned 2 other solid body electrics, an acoustic electric and a couple of acoustic guitars before I bought this one. It is awesome! And for a picky guitar player that buys and sells gear frequently, I've had this one for a year and have not considered selling it... I've played other brands of Les Pauls, and they manufacture these so well, I was disappointed not to see the same quality in many other guitars in this price range. The pickups are great, and can be adjusted from nice cleans to great powered humbucker gain. The Ebony fretboard and locking tuners are icing on the cake.

Excellent value, workmanship is excellent, setup perfect for my preference-string height perfect, no buzzing. Very good tone from neck and bridge pickups in all three selector positions. Quality is exceptional - Can never go wrong buying a Gibson!! I own twelve Gibson's- From the Les Paul Custom to the Melody Maker, Flying V's to Firebird. The Goldtop Rocks and when I say that I mean it kicks butt!

The 1960s Tribute Left-Handed electric guitar consists of a basic Gibson Les Paul chassis with all the essential elements needed to rock including a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece and Kluson-style tuners keep it all rock-solid and resonant and its gnarly P-90 tone stays true to the Les Paul style. A solid, carved maple top and chambered mahogany body give the Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute the same tonewood combination that has been helping Les Pauls rock for nearly 60 years. Authentic vintage-style finishes present a guitar with the look of a well played original, while the instrument's unbound body and neck keep it in line with the popular Les Paul Studio line. The headstock of the Gibson Les Paul Studio 1960s Tribute is equipped with Grover Kluson style green keys. With a gear ratio of 14:1, these tuners deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. The Gibson Les Paul's Tune-O-Matic bridge, sets a standard for simplicity and functionality that has never been bettered. The Tune-O-Matic provides a firm seating for the strings, allowing the player to adjust and fine-tune the intonation and string height in a matter of minutes. Both the neck and bridge position pickups are equipped with cream-colored screaming single-coil P-90 pickups. The P-90 was the standard pickup on all Gibson guitars in the late 1940s and into the 1950s and because of its crisp, bright tone it has experienced resurgence in popularity with many of today's modern rockers. These classic Gibson guitar pickups deliver sizzling, slightly gritty midrange roar. You'll find that the P-90s' high output and biting treble has more nuanced harmonic coloring than the typical single-coil pickup.

Michael Kelly Patriot Custom MKPCAT Electric Guitar Review

Michael Kelly Patriot Custom MKPCAT Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my Michael Kelly Patriot Custom Electric Guitar about a month ago when Amazon had it on sale. I am a fifty-six year old amateur, still taking lessons, but before this my main guitar was an '84 American Strat, so I had a top quality guitar to compare others against.
I was originally looking for a Gibson Les Paul-style guitar to compare against the Strat, and had picked-up a new Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Studio Deluxe Electric Guitar about a month earlier. The Epiphone is a very good guitar, but the machine heads were not great and needed to be changed (I went with Grovers), which brought the total cost of the Epiphone up to the cost of the MK Patriot Custom. The Epiphone is a great guitar to experiment with changing the hardware to see how much the sound and is changed by the successive hardware changes (I will probably change the pickups on it to Seymour Duncan Hotrods sometime later).
The quality of the MK Patriot Custom is way beyond the Epiphone. Nothing wrong now with the Epiphone, but you can FEEL the quality of the Patriot Custom as soon as you pick it up. It is slightly heavier, VERY solid, and has GREAT sustain. The ebony fingerboard is a dream (I feel that the ebony makes for a smoother feel, especially for bends). The sound out of the Rockfield pickups is incredible (right up there with the EMG active pickups on my Strat), and the machine heads that come standard with the guitar are Grovers, so no need to swap out ANYTHING.
The MK Patriot Custom is also a beautiful guitar. I got mine in Cherry Sunburst, mainly because of the video posted on Youtube by a German guitar store (can't understand a word of what the guy is saying, but watch it full screen in HD mode, and you'll see that you don't need to understand German to know that he is impressed with this guitar):
[...]Guitar World also posted a written and video review. Read the review, then scroll down to watch the video: [...]The MK Patriot Custom is an INCREDIBLE guitar right out of the box. Just get you favorite guitar tech to set-up the action the way you like, and you're all set.
So... watch the two videos, read the review, and if you are looking for a top-quality Les Paul-style guitar without having to compromise slightly and go to Epiphone, or pay a huge premium just for the Gibson name, BUY A MICHAEL KELLY PATRIOT CUSTOM NOW, before they get crazy and either discontinue a great product (companies often do that with a great product so that they can increase the price on the cosmetics-only-changed "new product" they then launch), or they just announce an incredible price increase on the product.
I am convinced that Michael Kelly is THE new name in top-quality guitar manufacturers, and that the Patriot Custom is a future classic.
Do yourself a favor and get one.
