Godin Redline Electric Guitar (Trans Black Flame, Roseword Neck) Review

Godin Redline Electric Guitar (Trans Black Flame, Roseword Neck)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Brand new Godin Redline HB guitar arrived today ahead of schedule (good thing), but I've already processed a return for it. Why? Because of numerous rusted/shoddy frets, buzz on all strings, regardless of open or fretted notes...even after tuning, and a small chip on the fret board. Other than those flaws, body/neck/pickup construction appeared ok, nothing spectacular, as was the included gig bag. But considering I just paid nearly $500 for this guitar, and out of the box it had the aforementioned problems, that's just unacceptable. And to boot, I got stabbed...even bled!, by a string end on one of the tuners (at the headstock) while repackaging the item for return - this just added to the irritation. I ordered this specifically because it was a handcrafted, North American made guitar, but I bought a $200 Ibanez Jumpstart package for a family member over a month ago, and that guitar was better quality than this one! Overall, I'm very disappointed with this product and that in itself is disappointing...'cause I hate returning things!

Godin LGXT Solid Body 3-Voice Electric Guitar (Cognac Burst AAA) Review

Godin LGXT Solid Body 3-Voice Electric Guitar (Cognac Burst AAA)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

Godin's LGXT delivers a combination of electric guitar sounds, acoustic guitar sounds, and fast guitar synth tracking. It's a well-equipped electric to begin with, boasting Seymour Duncan humbuckers and a tremolo bridge. Godin takes it further with an on-board acoustic preamp and 13-pin synth output, effectively making the arsenal of sounds at your disposal unlimited.

Maple/Poplar Construction
As on most Godin models, a blend of tone-woods is used to construct the LGXT. The body is made of a silver leaf maple center with poplar wings and a figured maple carved top.
A pair of Seymour Duncan humbuckers and a five-way switch provide plenty of electric tonal options.

Godin Summit CT - Sunburst Flame 6-string Electric Guitar Review

Godin Summit CT - Sunburst Flame 6-string Electric Guitar

I've had a Summit for a little over a year now and I love this guitar. It's super powerful and gets great full, rich tones all along the fretboard. It's also surprisingly versatile for such a heavy guitar; with the HDR off the neck pickup can get an almost Fendery, open tone, but the bridge pickup with HDR on just screams. I've had a number of producers and engineers compliment this guitar and tell me how surprised they are by how great it sounds. While recording last year I even passed over an old Les Paul to use the Godin instead! It also plays better than a lot of Pauls, having a thinner body and much friendlier neck profile. Highly recommended.

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Black Pearl RN) Review

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Black Pearl RN)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
- The neck is make from Rock Maple. Generally grown in only cold climate. It is a very stable wood and perfect for a guitar neck. The neck is really easy to get your hands around.
- The body is made from maple and poplar. The center portion of the guitar body is maple and the outer wings are poplar. Poplar wood is a lighter wood which reduces the weight of the guitar making it more enjoyable to play. Compared to my "heavy" Les Paul, this is a big deal.
- Strap lock stems are standard on this guitar.
- Tuners turn smoothly and stay in tune.
- Pickups are very good. The bridge humbucker has great tones for lead guitar and the center and neck single coil pickups give this guitar a nice mix of tones.
- The bridge like the rest of the guitar have adjustments for height and intonation. The metal looks as if it is precision make for height and intonation adjustments.
- This guitar is totally under rated. Great bang for the buck. I own a USA Tele, USA Start and USA Les Paul and this guitar holds it's own. Even the deeply knurled knobs make my Strat and Les Paul look cheap.
- Finally I did need to adjust the height of the pickups to get the tone I wanted. For some reason the pickups are set very low from the strings. You simply hold the strings down on the last fret and adjust the clearance between the string and the pickup to what you desire. 1/16" is where I adjusted mine and it sounds soooo sweet!
- Although I love my telecaster the most, this guitar is like a combination of a Les Paul and a Strat. You can't go wrong buying it. I just don't know why you don't hear more about the Godin electric's.

The SD 22 combines the easy feel of a short scale with the added snap of a rock maple neck. The short scale reduces string tension, which provides easy string bending and augments the low frequency response. The compact feel of the neck and the diagonal radius carved into the body produces exceptional balance and comfort. In short, this guitar is fun to play, and lends itself to classic rock and R&B sounds.

Maple and Poplar Body
The SD 22 is constructed with a blend of two tonewoods. A center of silver leaf maple serves as an anchor for the neck and is flanked by poplar sidepieces, resulting in Godin's stated goal of making electrics that begin with a great acoustic sound. Solid body instruments may not produce much in the way of volume, but make no mistake, wood weight and density, type (and quality) of the neck/body attachment, type of bridge and nut material all have an impact on that final sound.
One Godin GHB1 humbucker and two Godin GS1 single-coil pickups, along with a five-way switch for serious tonal options.

Godin Exit 22 Solid Body Electric Guitar (Natural Mahogany RN) Review

Godin Exit 22 Solid Body Electric Guitar (Natural Mahogany RN)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my Godin Exit 22 as my "return" instrument after taking up guitar again after a twenty-something year break. Here's what I can tell you: This is a great guitar, made even better by a very reasonable price. As it came off the rack, action was set a bit high and intonation was a little off, but after having it set up by my local tech, all is well. Been playing it for hours every day for almost two years now - mostly blues and rock & roll - and feel like I am finally growing into it. 24 3/4 scale makes for easy, slinky bends - so more of a Gibson touch to this guitar.
Sound is wonderful through my Roland modeling amp, with solid, clear, clean tones from the single coil bridge and middle pups and as much nasty growl as one wants through the bridge humbucker. (I tend to play with the bass on the low end, but there is plenty of bottom-end available if that lights you up.)
Easy and comfortable reach of the upper frets is enhanced by some thoughtful sculpting around the neck pocket. You run into some smooth curves rather than a vertical wall a la Fender.
I could go on and on. Most important is that this is a solid guitar at a very, very reasonable price with plenty of room to grow. Oh, and the satin maple neck has gotten faster, while the mahogany body has gotten prettier with age and playing, so an added plus...

Godin's Exit 22 features a solid mahogany body and a rock maple neck, and was the first Godin guitar to combine a 24 3/4-inch scale with Godin's new 22-fret neck, a combination that delivers in both the comfort and sound departments. Monstrous distortion tones are easily dialed in via the Godin humbucker in the bridge, and stinging clean sounds are also at your fingertips, thanks to the Godin single-coil pickups in the neck and middle position. The Exit 22 is finished with a semi-gloss finish that gives it a beautiful understated look.

Mahogany Body
The Exit 22's natural mahogany finish looks great, to be sure. Of course it's a classic body wood, delivering a warm, harmonically rich sound to match those good looks.
One Godin GHB1 humbucker and two Godin GS1 single-coil pickups, along with a five-way switch for serious tonal options.

Godin Freeway Classic Electric Guitar (Lightburst Flame Leaftop RN) Review

Godin Freeway Classic Electric Guitar (Lightburst Flame Leaftop RN)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had gotten to a point where my $100 pawn shop special wasn't going to cut it anymore. I needed to step up to a proper instrument, but I didn't need to go overboard. After some research I determined that I was looking for something in the $600 - $700 range. I actually intended to walk out with a Fender Stratocaster. I looked a quite a few in the range, and I looked at some Ibanez guitars, and I looked at some epiphones and gibsons.
Problem is, $700 pays for the logo and the brand name - and not much else. Most of the guitars in this range were set up and finished about as well as one might expect from a $300 guitar. Frets hanging over the edge, or not completely tapped in, buzz in the action, sloppy binding... Now, at this point you might be thinking I'm just nitpicking. However, if the frets and binding aren't clean, you can bet they cut some corners on the parts of the guitar that you can't see.
I was about to give up, when I saw the Godin. The top is beautifully figured, and I like the HSH setup, but what the heck is a Godin? I put it through the inspection, and the neck is straight, the finish is free of pits and dents, the frets are perfect, the binding is completely clean. It's got straplock buttons installed by default. It even comes with a QA tag, that shows each of the quality assurance tests it had to pass before it was put up for sale.
Big deal. So the guitar is cosmetically perfect, that doesn't mean it'll play.
Except that it does. It plays better than any guitar I've ever seen in this range. It plays better than any USED guitar I've seen in this price range. The sound is sweet and the neck is very playable, and even though the action is insanely low, there is no buzz. It's made in Canada.
See, Godin doesn't really have a name to bank on. So what you are paying for is all guitar.
The stock pickups were fine, but I wanted to customize my sound a bit, So I threw in a dimarzio fred in the bridge and a dimarzio fs-1 in the single coil position.
All in all, it's a pretty sweet guitar.

Seagull Entourage Rustic Mini Jumbo Guitar Review

Seagull Entourage Rustic Mini Jumbo Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased this guitar after an exhaustive search for a new acoustic to replace an old friend who just plain got wore out.
After playing a ton of instruments, I narrowed my criteria. Haunted by that "Clapton Unplugged" tone, I decided that I wanted a guitar with a spruce top and rosewood back and sides, but I couldn't afford the high-end Martins. So after weeks of trying a ton of instruments, I found myself sitting in a guitar store torn between a very nice Taylor 214 and a wonderful Parkwood. While trying to select between them, I grabbed on of these off the wall just to give my hand something to do while I made up my mind.
The next thing I knew, I forgot all bout spruce and rosewood. I forgot about the comfort of the Taylor's auditorium body or the volume of the Parkwood dread.
I'd played other Seagulls before, and somehow the combination of a cedar top and cherry backs and sides didn't speak to me- but all those Seagulls had been dreadnoughts.
Yet those same woods in this shape give a unique tone which has an earthy, mid-rangy soul voice not too different than the spruce/rosewood combo while still providing a clear and compelling bottom end. When strummed hard, it delivers crisp, clear chords that speak with all the authority you'd expect from a well equipped dread. And yet the combination of the generous string spacing the warmth of the cedar top make finger-style playing a comfortable and beautiful experience. This thing is so versatile and would be at home at a bluegrass jam, a folk fest, or any unplugged blue/rock affair. (And you church-going guys would love this for some praise and worship too.)
The neck on the Seagull was every bit as playable as the Taylor, and as a big fella, I found the mini-jumbo to be a perfect fit.
As an added bonus, the rustic sunburst is truly stunning and stands apart from the sea of natural spruce finishes with their yellow hue.
I'm giving it a 4 because the light, satin finish makes it very easy to put dings on the soft cedar top and because they didn't install a strap pin on the neck heel, meaning that I've got to tie my strap on the headstock- which isn't that big of a deal. Tone-wise, this thing is simply flawless. You can find guitars with more bells and whistles to be sure, but you wont find a better sound at any price. And I got it for under $340.
Oh, and one more thing about that price. This guitar is made in Canada- where they have high labor costs and many of the same issues facing American manufacturers. If Godin (the parent company of Seagull) can build excellent guitars in Canada at this price point, why can't American companies do it too?
Bottom line- this guitar is a steal. It easily blows away every other guitar in its price point as well as most instruments costing three to four times as much. I know because I played them all. I would have gladly spent much more to get killer tone and superb playability like this, but thanks to our friends in the Great White North, I didn't have to.

Godin Redline Electric Guitar, Trans Red Flame, Rosewood Fingerboard Review

Godin Redline Electric Guitar, Trans Red Flame, Rosewood Fingerboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this guitar on a Lightening Deal. Well worth what I paid. It isn't the Redline 3 model. The one I got was the Redline 2 w/o the tremolo. Also included was a soft gig bag. The only thing I had to do to the guitar was adjust the truss rod(had some fret buzz) and tune it up. Wasn't crazy about the color when ordering but when I received it, I changed my mind. The transparant red with the black outline looks killer. Love the EMG's in it. The EMG's alone will set you back a couple hundred dollars. The only reason for the 4 stars was because it was the wrong guitar. But I was satisfied with what I got for the money. Godin makes a good product.

I shopped guitars in the $1000 - $1600 price range for months, and the SWS mini-jumbo is better than most. It really can't be beat for this price, especially since I bought it on sale through Amazon. The sound is full and mellow, and the short scale, thin neck and 1.8" nut width make it a joy to play. It sounds great strummed, picked, acoustically or plugged in.

Godin LG P90 Solid Body Electric Guitar (Trans Black Flame)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this guitar through one of a kind deal. Not sure why but sometimes Amazon will have crazy deals on guitars. I got the guitar for very cheap (over 60% off) via Amazon.
The guitar is made of solid wood. Maple flame grains really adds to the style of the guitar. I get a lot of complement on how nice the guitar looks. The only gripe about the looks is that the headstock feels and looks a bit cheap, although I like the styling.
Sound-wise. I run the guitar through a Digitech RP-500 multi-effect pedals to a set of Bose L1 PAs. At home, I usually run it through my headphones (again using the Digitech RP-500). The output is very high, and you can get nice, glassy sound via the two Seymour Duncan P90s on the guitar. The guitar is pretty heavy so make sure that you use a comfortable strap (e.g., wider around the shoulder contact point).
It comes with a nicely-padded gig bag with Godin label. The gig-bag has a lot of pockets for extra strings, tuner, 1/4 inch cables, etc.

Godin Icon Type 3 Electric Guitar, Natural Review

Godin Icon Type 3 Electric Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

Right out of the box, I was startled by the overall finish.
It was flawless and really attractive. I was originally hoping
for a wider, flat C shape neck, but the playability of the neck
just gets better every time I pick it up. (don't misunderstand,
the neck is in no way chunky or baseball bat like - just different
than what I expected)
Godin hit the motherload with the Jason Lollar P90s. I have Les Pauls with gibson P90s, and one with P-94s, and these Lollar 90s
are a cut above, with a much wider range and incredible crunch.
With 5 positions to switch and the option to use the active electronics (HDR)I have not been able to find a sound I dislike.
The tone control sports an impressively wide sweep. Roll back the
volume pot from 10 to 8 or lower, and the clean sounds jump out
with impressive clarity. Those crazy Canadians really know their
guitars. If my finances improve, I would love to try another model.
Lastly, when you consider how much upscale Gibson and PRS electrics cost, this guitar is a steal.

this guitar has nice tone, very good quality for the price range, if i have to choose between Gibson or Godin, i have to pick this one!!
very jazzy/blues sounds especially if you change the stings to 11 or 12 gauge
the acoustic pickup is very useful, you could balance the sound with both electric and acoustic and produce wide variety color.
I would recommend this guitar to anyone!!

Godin Exit 22 Solid Body Electric Guitar (Natural Mahogany MN)

I really love this guitar. Was a little cautious, since I hadn't played a Godin before. But, sought out a few local shops and they had some in stock (none had the Exit 22 though). Just to get the feel of the product line I checked those out and was happy with how they felt.
I like the unique and constrasting coloring of the guitar. Really like the metal knobs on the volume/tone (so much so I'm swapping out on some of my other guitars).
The neck plays very well, and like the maple on this model more than rosewood. Neck is a bolt on, and strings are through the body. The high frets are reachable and elecrified sound is quite respectable.
There are some complaints on the web that the humbucker is subdued. On the back of the body there is an opening (plastic box cover) with markings that look like for battery (i.e. active pickup) - but I haven't seen any connectors. Haven't opened it up to see what's in there, but haven't had a problem with sound level at all.
The combination of HSS pickups really provides quite an excellent range of options for voicing out of this. The pickups are very versatile in the sounds you can get out of them. This is a great bargain product, I'm happy with the high quality of all elements and the playability of the instrument. It's got the ability to sound like just about any other electric, that is a great feature.
This is a nice guitar and I'd recommend it if it appeals to your style.

Godin Session Electric Guitar - Vintage Burst SG RN Review

Godin Session Electric Guitar - Vintage Burst SG RN
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I liked the Godin Session so much that I trade my natural ash USA 1993 Strat for one straight up from the local music store. I don't know who makes their picups, but the single coils tone is superior to the stock fender USA pickups on my '93. It also has a Humbucking pickup in the bridge position that can be split to a single coil if you want a complete standard stra sound. I'm not sure if the pickups are actually louder than the fender, but they sure sound better, especially the neck pickup. I don't know how good their humbuckers are either. I know at one time, Godin had their pickups made by Seymor Duncan. I don't know who or where they are now made. They are certainly more than adequate.
The best part is the maple neck which is more comfortable and faster than the Stat's was. For anyone looking for a great electric solid body for short money, you can't go wrong with the Session. The tolerences seem tighter and the whole guitar seems to be better constucted than my Stat was. I highly recommend this guitar.

Godin 5th Avenue CW Electric Guitar (Kingpin II, Black)
Average Reviews:

I purchased the Godin KingPin II recently and could not be more blown away...the Guitar is beautiful, very playable and a great value!! I have a 1943 Epiphone Blackstone that I was considering converting with a floating P-90 with a volume and tone in a new pick guard. By the time I was to add new machine heads, nut and possible floating bridge it was easier to look for another guitar..that is when I found Godin KingPin....I loved the black one but honestly I was wishing they had one with 2 pickups...Low and behold they did....The KIngPin 2....I did my research and found a GREAT deal on a black one from UpFront Guitars...Gordon was great to deal with!! 3 days later it showed up!! Obviously I was very excited, but when I opened the box the guitar was in a CASE....it was a very basic case, but it was built for this guitar....when I opened it I was stunned....the guitar was beautiful....I literally walked pass my fiance' without even a kiss and right up to my band room to plug this baby in...yes it does sound good as an acoustic but I will never use it as one...I have a Martin for that.....For an amp I use a 1965 Reverb Rocket and and OCD overdrive....first no overdrive...beautiful sound..crank her up in position one...close...Then I used the OCD on the low setting with the tone and volume knobs at 9 oclock and the overdrive(gain) knob at 7 0'clock..so it it is barely on....when I turned up the amp and hit an E tears were in my eyes before the riff I played was over...it was perfect for ROCKABILLY!!! I knew it would be but it was awesome...I have my first gig with it this week-end...I am kinda scared it will get a ding, but I know its gotta happen sometime so she will be out every chance I get.!!!

The 5th Avenue CW Kingpin is Godin's take on the archtop jazz-style acoustic, complete with classic looks: Canadian cherry in a black finish, a floating pickgaurd and cream binding, and the requisite F-holes. But with modern touches like a pair of P90s, a deep cutaway, and a height-adjustable Tusq bridge by Graphtech, it lets you keep one foot in the past and the other firmly in the present.

A Modern Update on a Vintage Gem
The Godin 5th Avenue brings you back to a time when the archtop acoustic guitar reigned supreme. With the soul of a 1950's archtop, the 5th Avenue is a true vintage spirit of yesterday with today's level of modern playability. With more projection and volume in the low/mids than traditional archtop acoustic guitars, the dynamically rich tone of the 5th Avenue makes this sophisticated instrument a dream to play, but not a nightmare to pay for. From Alt-Country, Delta Blues, Slide, Jazz to Rock, the 5th Avenue can really deliver.

The CW version of the Kingpin adds a pair of Godin Kingpin P90 single-coil pickups, delivering all that classic, vintage tone with presence, clarity and a little attitude thrown in for good measure. Add a cutaway for higher-fret access, and you've got an axe that's plenty versatile.
