We talked to the salesman at guitar center who explained the differences between a few models. This one was labeled as folk guitar meaning it has a narrower waist- it also has a solid spruce top rather than laminate. For us the narrow waist felt natural and light. The second the salesman played it, we could hear the obvious difference that the spruce made, it sounded vibrant and bright. I can't say enough about how much we love this guitar. GREAT buy for the money.
