I like to buy solid wood guitars, so when I heard about this guitar for just over $300, I had to have a look.
I only play classical guitar and I have a couple of very expensive instruments, but I wanted a cedar/mahogany combo just to bang around on, and I did not want to spend a load of money, so I bought this Francisco Domingo FG-26.
The guitar arrived amazingly fast and in good condition. It is obvious at first that this is not a fancy guitar but it does have a solid mahogany body, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard (of good quality) and a nice solid cedar top. The binding is wood (not plastic) and this adds a nice touch. The guitar is very light in weight, but sounds pretty good right out of the box. The tuners were not the ones pictured in the adds or on the Fransisco Domingo website. They are just about the cheapest pressed metal tuners you can get. I wrote to the manufacturer asking what's up with that, but have not heard back yet. I suppose I will have to replace them with something a little more to my liking. I will say, however that they seem to keep the thing tuned even if they exacerbate the "cheap" look.
The finish is very nice. Very shiny but not too thick. Everything is nice and straight and true and the intonation is pretty good out-of-the-box. The saddle is VERY tall and the action is a bit high. I will take it down a millimeter or so and still have lots of saddle left. In my opinion this is a good thing. A light weight solid wood guitar like this will buckle a bit over the first couple of years and will need to be adjusted, so having a high saddle to start with will probably make it just about right by the time it is played in a bit.
Altogether I am satisfied with this instrument except for the tuning machines (which I can live with). In my opinion it is a good playing-around-with instrument or a good starter for somebody who wants to try out nylon without breaking the bank or buying junk. The lable says Fransisco Domingo FG-26 - Constructor de Guitaras (made in China). I did not know China and Spain were so close!
