EastWest Ministry of Rock Virtual Instruments Collection Review

In the past, I would spend hours trying to make other guitar sample sets sound realistic. I tried some that sounded decent, but they were lacking the "oomph" of today's rock, and I still had to fight to keep them from sounding synthesized. Enter Ministry of Rock. Rythmn guitar? Instantly realistic chords that flow together almost seamlessly, with meaty muted chunks. Solos? Great sounding ones can be pieced together with minimal effort. It's like a dream.
Drums (especially the Ludwig set) are powerful and deep. And as for the basses... well, if there's anything that MoR has taught me, it's that there's a HUGE difference between a recorded bass, and a bass that's been recorded (and played!) properly. The basses offer nearly as much flexibility as the solo guitars, and have more than enough energy to hold their own.
I haven't gotten too much into the included acoustic, but from fooling around with it on the keyboard, it seems extremely playable, with an absolutely massive number of chord variations (flats, sharps, etc). It's chords only, but Gypsy has a plucked version that matches up nicely, if you find it necessary.
If there's one thing I have to complain about (and it's more of a minor quibble), it's that the guitar chords are limited to a single range of tuning on the guitar. I would have liked to have had some extra samples with the guitar detuned a bit, for some lower-range sounds.
As the reviewer below mentioned, it does require a seperately purchased iLok key (which can store a hundred or so registration codes), but that comes with benefits of it's own, such a license portability. So it's either a pro, or a con, depending on how you look at it. I run it at home as well as work, so it's a great bonus for me.
All that aside though, Ministry of Rock is definitely my new sample set of choice.

Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone (Chrome) Review

Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone (Chrome)
Average Reviews:

Oh what a beautiful piece of craftsmanship! This mic has it all ,looks, sound just to name a few!I have a Shure SM58,AKG D5 and a Sennheiser E 845 S and none of them compare to this wonderful mic.The sound is crisp and clear,no feed back and you can crank up the power amp and still sounds great! Shure has got a winner in this mic! You can spend (and I have) $120 -$150 for other mics but if you can spend a little extra money and get this mic, this will be the last mic you'll own.Truly a hit at the gigs and performs excellent!Oh did I mention it makes you want to perform better and it makes you sound better!!If you try to sing and can't carry a note this mic won't help you but if you can sing what a wonderful sound you will have!I hope this helps in your decision and Amazon is the place to purchase this fine mic.

EMG KH21 Kirk Hammett Active Pickup Set with Pickguard Review

EMG KH21 Kirk Hammett Active Pickup Set with Pickguard
Average Reviews:

This is the by far the best pickup set I have ever seen or played. The ease of installation is great. I had to rout out some of my body and had to solder the plug in jack, but it was easy (I am mechanically inclined so that helped). The sound is awesome, I love the 3 position switch, seperate volumes for each pickup and the tone. You can play both pickups and then adjust the volume so that you get more from one pickup or the other and then adjust the tone as you see fit. Possibility's are endless. My Fender HSS is a totally different and 100% better looking and sounding guitar. I went to Musicians' Friend and found the matching cover for the back of the my guitar. My Strat is Vintage Red Wind so this looks awesome on it.......I wish that I could find a black whammy bar to match the pickups and the look would be complete......Great job EMG and thanks to Amazon.com I saved over 20 bucks compared to Musician's Friend and it was delivered to my front door in about 5 days. Awesome deal.......

Dean Vendetta 1000 Electric Guitar Transparent Red Review

Dean Vendetta 1000 Electric Guitar Transparent Red

I wanted an intermediate level guitar for practice so that I wouldn't have to lug my LP Standard around. First off let me say this guitar is an absolute steal for the money. Do the math!! A Floyd Rose Special tremolo system would set you back by at least $150 on fleabay (regular price is well over $200). Add excellent Dean DMT time capsule humbuckers ($79 each) and you have over $360 in hardware without switches, body, neck, strings, wires, truss rod, tuning hardware etc. The pickups are excellent and tonal clarity is second to none. I was a bit skeptical considering a guitar under $300 could sound so good. The retail price (MSRP) on this one is $799 and it would be a strong contender at that price too. This is my first Floyd Rose guitar and this thing stays in tune even after using the tremolo bar (whammy bar) repeatedly. All you have to do for fine tuning is adjust the thumb screws and you never have to adjust the string tension knobs, brilliant.
The body is made of mahogany and the transparent red finish is stunning. Design wise, I would still prefer the classier looking Dean hardtail but then, I like less flashy conservative designs and it is purely a matter of personal preference. Get this one before they are sold out because it is tough to find a pitch perfect intermediate to advanced guitar at this price!!
BTW I spoke to a rep at Dean and the 1000F is a special model built exclusively for Musicians Friend/Guitar Center. It is similar hardware-wise to the vendetta 4F except that the Vendetta 4F is neck-through construction whereas the the 1000F has bolt-on neck. The Vendetta 4F has a street price $650 ($1000 retail) while the 1000F is just $300 ($800 retail).

AXL Mayhem FireAx Electric Guitar, Black Review

AXL Mayhem FireAx Electric Guitar, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was never looking into this guitar i was looking into B.C Rich's Red bevel warlock guitar, but as i was going to purchase it, it sold out. out of desperation i frantically searched for a new stylish guitar and i saw this one and quickly ordered it. When it got here i was happy playing it but while spending time with it i soon realized its potential. The floating tremelo works like a dream when using the whammy bar for certain songs, the frets are jumbo as advertised, the neck is thin which allows me to go up and down the fret board with ease for songs like roulette or aces high, the strings i really didn't care for because i replaced them with Ernie ball power slinky which is great, the pickups are nice but i feel as if i want to replace them with something a bit stronger, though EMG did out do themselves with it, the clamps on the bridge come to good use and enhance the tone while playing (ive played with and without them and its better with) I love the shape, the pick up switch is very useful when switching from metal to acoustic but can cause a ruckus if your settings or amp is a bit too sensitive. (one pro and con of the pick up is that it hears EVERYTHING so excess noise has to be cleaned if your sloppy on the fret board or just movement period) It is an overall great guitar that id love to buy again (in a different color)

B.C. Rich PS4BOWS 4-Strings Bass Guitar, Spalt Maple Review

B.C. Rich PS4BOWS 4-Strings Bass Guitar, Spalt Maple
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one exceptional bass. Build qaulity and fit is excellent as is the fretwork. Its also the first bass I really really like the sound of passive. I had planned to drop a basslines blackout 2band eq into it but it doesnt need that tonal advantage most basses get with an added preamp. Nice warm bridge pup voicing rather then the overly trebly type some bridge humbucker pups give. Neck pup is powerful and articulate. Various blends between the two via the seperate volume controls gives wide range of tonal voices. The passive tone control further adds useful tone shaping by varying the char of bite and treble top. Useful to around 3/4 cut. Powerful very articulate, growly, modern voice oriented to dark char.
Out of the box I found two loose screws and adjusted action down to personal pref for very low. I also adjusted pup heights for best to me sound.
Playability is excellent on the neck. Multi string chord strumming aka Lemmy K of Moterhead, is very easy. Nut width is 1 and 5/8 inches. Nice satin finish on back of the neck.
Clear gloss finish on body shows off the wood very nicely. Very attractive BC Rich Warlock. The new humbucker pups are a diff improvement to me sound wise over the P type pups the warlocks have mostly come with in the past.
Excellent service from amazon.com for order and delivery.

Dean Hardtail Guitar, Select Trans Red Review

Dean Hardtail Guitar, Select Trans Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this guitar for 3 years. I've used it for dozens of shows and extensively in a home/studio environment as my primary tracking guitar.
Likes:
*Sound and tone control - The pickup selector allows you to select between one or both humbucker pickups. You can also single/double-tap the pickups by pulling up or pushing down on the tone knobs to mix and match single-coil sounds. The range of tones this guitar can produce is surprising.
*Action - I like the spacing and size of the frets. If you set the string height at the right height, this guitar can shred and it is very fun to play.
*Finish - the paint, style, and color are gorgeous with the silver hardware.
*Light Weight - At first I thought this guitar was too light and wouldn't give me much sustain, but it's really not that noticeable compared to similar heavier guitars.
*Tuners are great, stays in tune.
Dislikes:
*Lost a star for road-worthy durability. One of the double tap knobs eventually got pulled out of the socket (still working not fix that one). The wood on the headstock cracked during a show because it fell a short distance off a guitar stand into some drywall. This was not a particularly hard or violent fall. I have other guitars that have survived much worse.
*When shipped brand-new, one of the frets had a small groove on the neck that caused the high-e string to get stuck off the fretboard occasionally. A minor Q/A flaw I easily resolved with a small dab of industrial wood glue.
Bottom Line:
* For the features, tone, and looks at this price, I would certainly purchase this guitar again. It's served me very well.

It's simple, Dean makes the best guitar for the money. Their are nicer guitars out there if you want to pay through the nose. Nobody has the originality that Dean brings to the table. You won't see every douche bag and his mother playing one of these!

ive had an sob about a year now.its lightweight, looks cool as hell...consider changing the pick-up...it has a good sound, but is a bit thin.i would recommend this to anyone,it has good playability, the neck is fast.my 1 regret, and take this into consideration before buying...this is without a doubt,a guitar made to play metal...it would look very out of place in a pop,or country band...
