Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson AJ Advanced Jumbo Guitar Vintage Sunburst

As far as I'm concerned, this is exactly what acoustic guitars should sound like. You might find more silky or strident highs elsewhere, or more punchy lows from an old martin, and there are plenty of other guitars that excel at one particular element of timbre and tone (though you'd likely pay much more for them), but the advanced jumbo is the complete package! Balanced, delicate, powerful, and resonant, with enveloping depth and richness. Everything comes through clearly, no dominant strings or chords. The tones are nicely complex without getting confused or muddled. The neck is on the thin side which some people may dislike, but it's not anemic. Binding over the fret ends was sloppily finished between the heel and soundhole, and the plastic bridge pins and strap peg seem a little cheaply made, but both are easily remedied. Looking at it, it's about like you'd expect a $2000 acoustic to be. Close your eyes and play, and those little things are quickly forgotten. Beautiful. You can't come close to this kind of sound without paying a heck of a lot more.

Seagull Coastline S6 Spruce Guitar - FBA Review

Seagull Coastline S6 Spruce Guitar - FBA
Average Reviews:

I just got back from Guitar Center with the S6 acoustic, and I have to say it is an extremely nice guitar. I paid $370 with a case thrown-in to sweeten the deal. Here's my review.
Appearence = (9) Visually, the headstock takes alittle getting used to, and I really like the two-tone difference of the body and neck. I also like the binding around the headstock and outter lining of the body. This guitar looks extremely well put together, and could probably sell for a much higher price.
Sound quality = (9) If you want a big resonating acoustic for under $500.00 this is the guitar for you. Crisp treble and smooth bass are to be expected upon purchase.
I wasn't even looking to buy an acoustic, but I had to have it after I picked up the guitar. Most acoustics sound dull to me, but the S6 projects beautiful tones from it's big-bodied design.
Playability and action = (10) As far as acoustics, this is the first one I have played that really feels like an electric guitar in my hands. Bending strings and adding vibrato are easily accomplished on this guitar. The entire body is smooth as butter, and the neck is extremely fast. I personally hate a finished backing on any of my guitars. Pleasently, this guitar seems to have none, and feels silky smooth to the touch.
Workmanship = (10) This guitar is extremely well put together. I especially like how fast and precise the tuners are on the guitar.
Hope this helps in your decision, now go out and try one for yourself!

Seagull Entourage Rustic Mini Jumbo Guitar Review

Seagull Entourage Rustic Mini Jumbo Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased this guitar after an exhaustive search for a new acoustic to replace an old friend who just plain got wore out.
After playing a ton of instruments, I narrowed my criteria. Haunted by that "Clapton Unplugged" tone, I decided that I wanted a guitar with a spruce top and rosewood back and sides, but I couldn't afford the high-end Martins. So after weeks of trying a ton of instruments, I found myself sitting in a guitar store torn between a very nice Taylor 214 and a wonderful Parkwood. While trying to select between them, I grabbed on of these off the wall just to give my hand something to do while I made up my mind.
The next thing I knew, I forgot all bout spruce and rosewood. I forgot about the comfort of the Taylor's auditorium body or the volume of the Parkwood dread.
I'd played other Seagulls before, and somehow the combination of a cedar top and cherry backs and sides didn't speak to me- but all those Seagulls had been dreadnoughts.
Yet those same woods in this shape give a unique tone which has an earthy, mid-rangy soul voice not too different than the spruce/rosewood combo while still providing a clear and compelling bottom end. When strummed hard, it delivers crisp, clear chords that speak with all the authority you'd expect from a well equipped dread. And yet the combination of the generous string spacing the warmth of the cedar top make finger-style playing a comfortable and beautiful experience. This thing is so versatile and would be at home at a bluegrass jam, a folk fest, or any unplugged blue/rock affair. (And you church-going guys would love this for some praise and worship too.)
The neck on the Seagull was every bit as playable as the Taylor, and as a big fella, I found the mini-jumbo to be a perfect fit.
As an added bonus, the rustic sunburst is truly stunning and stands apart from the sea of natural spruce finishes with their yellow hue.
I'm giving it a 4 because the light, satin finish makes it very easy to put dings on the soft cedar top and because they didn't install a strap pin on the neck heel, meaning that I've got to tie my strap on the headstock- which isn't that big of a deal. Tone-wise, this thing is simply flawless. You can find guitars with more bells and whistles to be sure, but you wont find a better sound at any price. And I got it for under $340.
Oh, and one more thing about that price. This guitar is made in Canada- where they have high labor costs and many of the same issues facing American manufacturers. If Godin (the parent company of Seagull) can build excellent guitars in Canada at this price point, why can't American companies do it too?
Bottom line- this guitar is a steal. It easily blows away every other guitar in its price point as well as most instruments costing three to four times as much. I know because I played them all. I would have gladly spent much more to get killer tone and superb playability like this, but thanks to our friends in the Great White North, I didn't have to.

Norman Encore B20 High Gloss Guitar Review

Our nonprofit, Guitars in the CLassroom, receives donations of guitars for use with the teachers we instruct; among those we receive, Godin provides us with the best guitars from the companies who support us, Kaman, Martin (yes, Martin!), Saga, etc. This B20 just came back from a teacher to whom we had loaned it for her use in the Classroom with her students, as she has now purchased her own - probably not as amazing as this loaner was! When I played it, I was blown away with the power and tone....and the construction detail was superb (and I assume we are getting Blems or 2nds....but I can't tell what the defect might be.) Buy one of these, and revel in what a true large acoustic can do for both group singing and recording. What a sweet guitar! Thanks Godin....

Seagull Entourage Rustic CW QIT Acoustic-Electric Guitar Rustic Review

Seagull Entourage Rustic CW QIT Acoustic-Electric Guitar Rustic
Average Reviews:

I won't lie to you, I'm a Seagull guy. I went in looking for a great guitar at a great price, and while I was open to veer away from my coveted Seagull-made guitars if the right deal were to be available, I simply couldn't do it. I tried out a bunch of different guitars in my price range, and the Seagull Entourage Rustic CW QI(T) won, hands down. First of all, the tuning machines are basically the solid chrome Ping tuning machine heads disguised with Seagull logos. I love this because I am very picky about my tuning machines and often swap out my guitars' machine heads for said Ping parts. Next, the nut width of the neck is narrower than the standard Seagull nut width, which makes it more comparable to a Martin or Taylor or something of that nature. This makes the transition for a non-Seagull acoustic player a little smoother. Third, the action is comfortable, but not too comfortable. If the action is too low and too easy to push down, sound is compromised, this is not so here. I believe this is the softest action a guitar can have without taking away from the sound or causing buzzing or things of that nature. The Godin electronics are flawless, and sleekly designed. As in the "Rustic" name, even the electronics stay true to this look, and the style and functionality are both top of the line. This is one of the few (if not only) Seagull in this price range with a cutaway, and that is important because it allows for more flexibility and mobility on the neck for those who like to utilize every available fret on the guitar. The overall look is nice. At first, I thought the sunburst was a little too much, but after a couple hours of staring at it, I have grown to love it. Finally the most important thing about this guitar is the sound. The guitar possesses a very full, vibrant, diverse sound. There is a slight twang in the timbre, but it is not overbearing, leaving for a warm and perfect acoustic sound for almost any style or application. I do not believe a better guitar can be bought for this price, but I must point out the negative. As with my old Seagull, the wood feels rather soft, so with some ruckus playing and misguided strumming, the wood can wear away and damage the surface more easily than other guitars. This is a small price to pay for an otherwise very powerful acoustic-electric package. Besides, I like when my guitars get that worn-in look, so this is not at all a negative for me personally. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a guitar as in such a short time; it has grown so dear to my heart.

Seagull Coastline S6 Cedar GT QI Guitar Review

First of all, just so you have a frame of reference, I am writing this review as a professional studio musician and recording artist under contract to a major label. I actually have a CD for sale that is listed on Amazon (just search under Howie3).
The Seagull S6 is one of the finest guitars on the market. I seriously doubt any musician, amateur or professional, could effectively prove that his or her favorite Martin or other "top-end" guitar costing thousands more than the S6 sounds any better in the studio or in a live performance. I have access to any guitar I choose to play and I play Seagull guitars exclusively.
The S6 is an excellent choice for any serious guitar player. You will love this guitar from the moment you pick it up. As some have noted, lowering the action is an acceptable modification for easier solo playing, otherwise it is good to go right out of the box.

Takamine EG440SC G Series Acoustic-Electric Guitar w/FREE SKB Hardshell Case and Stand Review

I ordered this on a Sunday evening & it arrived the following Wednesday afternoon without expedited shipping! I've tried Martins and Taylors costing much more & the sound of this guitar is one of the nicest I've come across; with a nice rich midrange & plenty of low end. The intonation, sustain & action are awesome. Plugged in with a touch of reverb justifies the extra I paid for the electronics. The onboard tuner is a nice feature too. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone.
Most online sellers charge a minimum of $50.00 more just for the guitar. That's without the hard shell case and stand! I saved a lot buying this through Amazon.

Takamine G Series G360S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Natural Review

Takamine G Series G360S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am not an expert, this review is based on my observations and comparisons with other guitars that I tried out in the store. This is a dreadnought guitar, might be too big for those of smaller stature. It has a solid spruce top with rosewood back and sides, which probably accounts for the great sound and resonance. It has a glossy finish with abalone inlays and rosette, really looks nice ! I tried the Ibanez AC30NT and the Yamaha FG720S. The Yamaha didn't sound as resonant as the Ibanez or the G360S. The only downside is it's pricey compared to the AC30NT (hence, the 4 stars).
It is my opinion that guitars are very personal. You need to sit down and play a few chords on it and play the same chords on the other guitars to arrive at a fair comparison. Note both left and right hand positioning and see which is most comfortable to you. If you decide on 1 model, see if you can try out other guitars of the same model. You might be surprised they may sound different, too !

Recently traded in a 4 month old Epiphone Chet Atkins model for this guitar. Also have a Martin D-16RGTE Premium and this guitar sounds better! Our band plays bluegrass about 2 times a week at local pubs, etc. It gets lots of use and sounds great using a condensor microphone. Also gets a lot of looks due to the "old-timey" look. This guitar has a great feel, almost familiar. Great case included! The only issue is the hygrometer always reads "70". If that worked,I would rate it at 5 1/2!

I highly recommend this guitar for anyone above a beginner. finger tapping is easy because it picks up sound so well. And the more you play this guitar, the grains in the wood start to open up and give you a better sound. if you are looking for a down side, i cant give you one. It gives a superb electric sound as well. I've recorded with it on Garageband and i can't tell any difference in sound from some thousand dollar guitars i've played. Highly recommended.

I just got my Takamine in the mail today, was a day beyond the estimated shipping..But hey, it's an estimate right.
No complaints, it looks great and most importantly it sounds better than I expected. It was strung up and almost in tune surprisingly. The built in tuner is pretty cool, The sustain is friggin nice. Definitely a great guitar for the price I say. I even have somewhat of a "thumbprint" pattern on the wood grain which I really like...Cause it's undeniably my guitar from the looks...Maybe someone would find something like that un-appealing...though i think it gives some good character to it.

Takamine G Series EG340SC Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural Review

Takamine G Series EG340SC Dreadnought Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off... I'm not a great guitar player and don't know everything about guitars.
With that said, I really like this guitar. The sound is amazing and the craftmanship is fantastic. For my birthday I received Takamine G Series 340C Acoustic-Electric Guitar which my family had purchased from Long and McCuade (In canada). I went up there to see if they would price match amazons price of 275 for it and they told me that was below their cost... so I returned the guitar and went to buy it on amazon. (I loved the sound of the guitar as well... but the 340SC does sound much nicer). I decided to upgrade to the 340SC model since it was very cheap on amazon as well 327(still below orginal purchase price of the 340C). Long story short... I would recommend both guitars but for $50 difference the 340SC was an easy choice.
I like the gold tuners but they might not be for everyone. They seem to be holding the tune very well. The rosewood, spruc and mahogany is very sharp looking all with really nice grain lines. I really like the abalone dot inlays and the abalone rosette. One difference visually between the 340C and the 340SC is the the top bind stripe (around the edge of the spruce ... on top), for the 340C it was abalone while the 340SC is 3 alternating black and white lines... ~1/8" thick.
I love the built in tuner. Works like a charm... it simply displays a letter for the chord it hears with either a ^ or v to indicate to tune up or down... when in tune they both appear. Since it shows a letter for the chord I found it quite useful in remembering bar chord positions. I have not pluged into an amp yet and tested out the equilizer. It has a low battery light... and the screen is easy to see even in the dark or bright lights.
I also purchased Guardian Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Case (Fiberglass, Dark Grey) and the guitar fits perfectly into the case.
I am planning on taking the guitar to a technician for a proper setup since the 340C came with a smaller amount of play between the strings and the frets than the 340SC.
I was very worried about purchasing a guitar on amazon but it was all for nothing. Shipping was fantastic, signature required. It was shipped in the orginal guitar box placed into another over sized box filled with shipping peanuts (a full big garbage bag full). I purchased it from Gear 1 Music.
Overall for the price I paid I could not be any happier with this guitar. I hope this helps... if not check out this YouTube Review: [...]

Seagull S6 Original Acoustic Guitar Review

Seagull S6 Original Acoustic Guitar
Average Reviews:

I bought a Seagull in 1995, with my first paycheck after graduating from college, at a small guitar store in Petaluma. It might be the best $400 I've ever spent.
Over the years I've become a much better guitar player, but I haven't outgrown this instrument, and I doubt I ever will. It is a fantastic guitar that plays beautifully and sounds better every year. It's very easy to play, very reliable (haven't needed to adjust the truss once) and did I mention it sounds great?
It's beautiful, too, with a wonderful light finish. Most guitars in this price range are cheaply made in asia and heavily lacquered. Not this baby!
If something ever happened to it I'd skip right past the Taylors and Martins and buy another one of these without a second thought. I brought it to a party recently, and met someone who asked to borrow it. I let him, and he strummed it for a few minutes. Turns out he's one of those guys who owns half a dozen guitars, and when he handed it back to me he said, "Don't ever sell this guitar, unless it's to me."
The only guitar I've ever played where I felt like I was clearly handling a better guitar was a Paul Reed Smith hollowbody which runs for over three grand.
You could spend a lot more money and not get an instrument this nice. For $400, it's hard to imagine that you'll do better.
