JBL Control 29AV1 Indoor Outdoor Speaker (8 inch, 300 watts, Black) Review

JBL Control 29AV1 Indoor Outdoor Speaker (8 inch, 300 watts, Black)

Before you purchase this speaker, you need to realize it's intended application. Unless you've seen this speaker in action, and prefer the sound, you'll probably be able to get "better sounding" consumer speakers for the same price. However, you won't find one that's as robust as this. These are used in many theme parks and commercial applications throughout the world.
The Control 29 is probably the brainchild of JBL Pro's extended speaker lineup from the original Control Contractor line, which originally only included the Control 23, 25, and 28. Along with the SB-210 and the Control 30, these are designed differently from the original line. Unlike it's bigger and smaller siblings, this speaker has underwent two revisions (29AV and 29AV-1). Though it uses an 8" driver, the same size found in the Control 28, the frequency range and overall output is much higher than you'll expect. It also has more suspension options, which include points throughout the speaker, though the Invisiball mount is still included. It also included a more durable grille design than the Control 23, 25, and 28. Accessories are also included with this "premium" speaker, such as a weather resistant cover for the terminals that normally cost around $30 with the small Control speakers. Overall, if you're looking for a weather resistant speaker that's capable of high output, I suggest you take a good look at this speaker. If you need more power, consider looking at the Control 30. If you're looking for less, but still want a good sound, look at the Control 28.

QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier Review

QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier

I bought the QSC GX5 stereo amplifier for use in my band's practice studio. We previously used a Mackie mixer/amp setup and we recently bought an Allen & Heath mixer along with the QSC Amp. We've gone from a little noisy system to an absolutely silent (no hiss, no noise) system even when turned all the way up. It's nice! We A/B'd the amps and while the Mackie is rated to have more power, the QSC is clearly punchier and so much cleaner. I can't say enough about how nice this amp is. I've owned Crown, Crest and Yamaha amps as well and none of them were cleaner than this one.
As for durability, it's still new BUT QSC is offering a 6 year warranty for free on this model (until March 09) so I can't imagine they would do this if these amps were a service problem.
Oh and it looks great in my rack. I read somewhere that the amp is noisy when the cooling fans get going. Knowing this, I cranked the amp full and ran a punchy CD through the mixer full blast (no distortion!) and waited while the amp warmed up. After it reached operating temperature, the fan(s) indeed came on but by no means were they "loud." If I had this amp in a recording studio, I would have the amp in a soundproof room or enclosure as I suppose the fan could be audible during very quiet recording sessions. On the other hand, it is reassuring that I know the fans are indeed working, keeping the rails cool. For live sound, it just isn't a real issue.
Now I'm considering getting another QSC for a monitor amp. I heartily recommend this amplifier.

Behringer EPX2000 Professional 2000-Watt Light Weight Stereo Power Amplifier with Atr (Accelerated Transient Response) Technology Review

After thorough research on multiple websites I determined that the Behringer EPX200 was the right amp for my situation. The applied situation for this amplifier is for a fraternity house sound system. So, I emphasize the word rugged in the title, haha. It's been almost a month now and this amp is put through its paces multiple times throughout the week. It's powering two Nady 500 watt speakers and they sound great. This amp puts out plenty of power, and the limiter switch on the back is great because it keeps people from doing harm to the amp or the speakers who don't know how to use it. Seriously, even in a large room, this amp pumps out the sound.

i have high-end 7.1 surround speakers for my home theather. so when i bought a karaoke & equalizer & pre-amp units, i thought i was done. wrong.
you need these vocal speakers! period. loud yet clear and crisp. they bring out the vocal, and the right mix of mid and high . a little weak at the low bass, but im sure its by design, can be easily compensated with existing sub-woofer or by adjusting the EQualizer.
highly recommended.

DBX DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer Review

WOW! Think about this thing as a magic wand for your sound system. Even though I only know how to work the wizards, I can already hear the difference. The sound is nice and tight, and I am able to get the bass I love out of my system (2x Mackie SRM450's and a Cerwin Vega CVA-115 sub, second one coming soon!). I started playing around with the compressor and the EQ and I'm amazed at how great my speakers sound. I can't wait to learn how to fully use all the features. I've already told some of my DJ friends to get this. Also, the feedback suppression system on this is great. I DJ weddings and other formal and corporate events. I don't have any complaints so far!

I used to use Crown amps and since I bought a Behringer EQ (FBQ 1502) I decided to go to the NEW epx model.
It's just amazing, great punch, lightweight, and very well construction.
I think Behringer made this amp really good.
For its price you can't get a better amp. Trust me.

Crown XLS1000 Power Amplifier with integrated PureBand Crossover System and PeakX Limiters Review

Crown XLS1000 Power Amplifier with integrated PureBand Crossover System and PeakX Limiters

A few years ago my NAD power amp died after nearly 25 years of service; a good run for a fine piece of gear. Anyway, at the time my budget was very tight, so I deployed a Sansui integrated I had in the closet. That meant my Audio Research SP9II has been sitting unused--a shame because it's a fine late 80s preamp (and worth getting even now if you find one at a nice price). I recently decided to get the SP9II back in action, so I needed a power amp. But I still don't have funds for anything too pricey (meaning much above $400. Yeah, I know by audiophile standards that's petty change.) There's not a lot to choose from in that range. The little AudioSource amps get a lot of good reviews, but also a fair number of bad reviews. So I decided to check out the pro amps used by musicians and studios. Pyles were quite cheap, but not universally respected. Behringer was a possibility, but I know little about that company. Then I found the Crown XLS 1000 on sale for c. $250. The other amps in the series got solid reviews, the company was noted for rugged construction and high quality, and it had a good 3 yr. warranty. It was also a featherweight, under 10 lbs. (Appealing to me, with a dicky back.) Sold. When I hooked it into my Marantz CD changer & SP9II & satellite/sub system I immediately realized what I'd been missing with the Sansui (not a bad amp, but not exceptional). A semblance of soundstage opened up; dynamics improved notably; everything is just more vivid and detailed. The SP9II and the XLS 1000 make a terrific team. So, if you need a power amp for a home audio system, consider the XLS 1000. For a bit more money, the models higher in the line (1500, 2000, 2500) will give you more power. But I think if you're driving just a fairly efficient home speaker system (as I am), and you're an audio miser, this will do nicely for you.

Seismic Audio - 412 GUITAR SPEAKER CABINET - 4x12 400 Watts PA/DJ PRO AUDIO Review

I bought a straight and an angled cabinet. They have a nice sound. The mids are really scooped out. I cranked my mids all the way up and got a good sound. You can really pump the bass through these as well. I received them on time but Fedex dented three of the top corner protectors. No big deal, I just swapped them with bottom ones so you don't see it. The only thing I don't like about them is they are not very loud. They're rated at 96db sensitivity. It takes every bit of my 150 watt Line 6 Spider III amp (volume at max.)to keep up with the rest of the band. And I have to stack them. If I put them both on the floor, I can't hear them for squat.
