those in the know can tell you a good LP JR. kicks major butt.
However, be careful with the reissues because many are not one piece bodies. With that, I'm lucky enough to own a one piece body reissue. Strumming it unplugged, it's very resonant.
The single coil p90 is very responsive and can cover a wide range of tones. Do not be fooled: a hot p90 can allow for mean palm mutes(depending on your amp!) and screaming high notes. I do recommend putting on heavy gauge strings, because 9's will be too light and the instrument won't deliver any low end. Gibson used to advertise this model with a slim taper neck, but it's more 50's round(though not as chunky as a '59 neck) than slim.
I've played nice reissues side by side with vintage ones, and these can hold up.
HOWEVER, I've recently seen this model in a store and the wood grain/finishing did not match mine from a mere 2 years ago. Ebay can offer you some insight to how sought after a nice vintage JR. goes for.
But, as with any guitar, best to play it before buying it.
