When I first saw this guitar sitting behind the locked glass in the "special guitar" room at Guitar Center in Fairview Heights, Illinois, it was love at first sight. There is no other way to describe it. When I began playing this perfect specimen, that first love transcended to a level of emotions known only to those who are capable of out-of-body experiences.
I have played the guitar since 1975. I own a $3000 Gibson Les Paul, a hot-rodded Fender Stratocaster, a hand-made Yairi Alvarez WY112 12-String Acoustic/Electric, a Martin 6-String acoustic, a Martin electric mandolin, a 1962 Gibson SG, among others, and I have NEVER played anything as sweet and as perfect as the John Petrucci Ernie Ball Music Man Electric Guitar. It hardly ever goes out of tune, which the Les Paul does ALL of the time, even after using the floating tremolo whammy bar to it's full capacity. On the rare occasion that it does, it only sharps or flats to the slightest degree. Nobody would notice if you were playing live. And even then, it's only one string at a time, never all six, like my Strat. It has the fastest neck I have ever played, making string-skipping a breeze. It's akin to gliding on ice without the coldness. Simply put, it's like "hot ice!" The volume and tone controls aren't in the way when chucking at the bridge (also known as palm muting), like they are with the Strat. The two high string tuning keys (High E & B) are on the bottom and the four lower string tuning keys (G-Low E) are on the top, reducing the reach to retune, which, as I already mentioned, is a rare occurrence, if at all.
Every penny I paid for my new best friend is well spent and well worth it! This is a "lifetime" guitar; I will NEVER get rid of it!
Don't sell yourself short. If you are into playing songs where you are shredding 'til your fingers are on fire and then the very next song you slow it down to the pace of Led Zeppelin's Rain Song, then this guitar is for you. It can be frightfully mean, and the next second, it can be lazily mellow. It can be screaming and thrashing, and the next moment, it can be warm and full-bodied in its tonality. It's incredible. You have to experience it to believe it. You simply can't go wrong. I used to change guitars in between songs, now...other than to play a song with alternate string tuning, there is absolutely no need to switch.
If you've got the cash, pick one of these up. You won't be sorry. Also, if you do, please write back in the comments about how freakin' awesome your new acquisition is!
