Ernie Ball Music Man Axis Floyd Rose Electric Guitar, Trans Blue Review

I would give this guitar a 9.0 out of 10.0 stars.
Fit and finish is definitely a 10 out of 10. Versatility is 8 out of 10. Playability is 9 out of 10.
Musically it sounds fantastic. Having the Floyd Rose flush against the body makes the harmonics jump off the fret board for lots of whammy bar squeals, if you like that sort of thing.
The neck scale is slightly longer than my Les Pauls, but the neck is also narrower. I also had to adjust the setup including adjusting the truss rod in order to get it suitable for me. The action was quite high when the guitar arrived, and I lowered it a bit. It's still a bit higher than some of my other guitars. I've gotten used to it now, but to lower it further would probably require "shimming" the neck, which is something I'm not prepared to do.
Although the looks are fantastic, the one downside is you don't get to choose the "details". The guitar had more of a flamed maple top, where I would have preferred a quilted maple top. Also the neck is more striped and swirled maple rather than the birds eye maple that some Axis have. One other minor issue is the fret markers are tiny black dots rather than the larger mother of pearl type. If those kind of issues bother you I would suggest going for the Ball Family Reserve instead of this.

This sucker is expensive, but it is the best guitar I have ever owned, hands down. If you like to dive-bomb with a wammy bar this is for you. It plays incredibly smooth.

Ernie Ball Music Man Steve Morse Y2D Electric Guitar, Purple Sunset Review

This is a very nice playable guitar. I have a 30 year old stratocaster that plays well but the SM-Y2D smokes it with a really fast unfinished birdseye maple neck.I really like the sculpted neck pocket for playing on the highest registers and it fits my hand just perfectly. It came to me with no setup issues such fret buzz dead notes etc. and I doubt i'll even have a setup done. EB Music Man really puts out some really nice guitars and this is a fine example. Top notch finish that you either like the looks of or don't.This has the matching headstock which I don't think the newest models include. The head is approx.1 3/4" shorter than my Strat.and that makes it seem like a smaller guitar even though the neck has 1 more fret for 22 total. The upper horn is approx. 1/2" shorter than my Strat.and the lower horn is about the same. The fingerboard markers are only a 3/32"-1/8" dia. whick I like the look of.The purple sunset is the earlist version and they now come in different colors if purple isn't your thing and yes it does look much better in person. You can get great sound out the SM-Y2D and with the right amp setup and even sound just like Steve if ya got that kind of talent and thats the sound your after. I play it through a 40watt solid state Fender amp and it sounds great. I would like to hear it with a good tube amp some day though. Tons of sound and playability great in a great build quality make this worth a look for sure. Mine arrived with out a scratch on it in a MM hard shell case and the price at Amazon was hundreds lower than anywhere else when I bought it. If you don't know this already, Amazon prices change all the time and can even change while an item is in your basket so if you see it at a great price buy it before it changes/goes up. I found this out while I had an Aguilar speaker cabinet in my cart and the price jumped up $50.00 I got mad and passed on it even though it was still a good price. Lesson learned !

Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar, Mystic Dream Review

Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci 6 Electric Guitar, Mystic Dream

When I first saw this guitar sitting behind the locked glass in the "special guitar" room at Guitar Center in Fairview Heights, Illinois, it was love at first sight. There is no other way to describe it. When I began playing this perfect specimen, that first love transcended to a level of emotions known only to those who are capable of out-of-body experiences.
I have played the guitar since 1975. I own a $3000 Gibson Les Paul, a hot-rodded Fender Stratocaster, a hand-made Yairi Alvarez WY112 12-String Acoustic/Electric, a Martin 6-String acoustic, a Martin electric mandolin, a 1962 Gibson SG, among others, and I have NEVER played anything as sweet and as perfect as the John Petrucci Ernie Ball Music Man Electric Guitar. It hardly ever goes out of tune, which the Les Paul does ALL of the time, even after using the floating tremolo whammy bar to it's full capacity. On the rare occasion that it does, it only sharps or flats to the slightest degree. Nobody would notice if you were playing live. And even then, it's only one string at a time, never all six, like my Strat. It has the fastest neck I have ever played, making string-skipping a breeze. It's akin to gliding on ice without the coldness. Simply put, it's like "hot ice!" The volume and tone controls aren't in the way when chucking at the bridge (also known as palm muting), like they are with the Strat. The two high string tuning keys (High E & B) are on the bottom and the four lower string tuning keys (G-Low E) are on the top, reducing the reach to retune, which, as I already mentioned, is a rare occurrence, if at all.
Every penny I paid for my new best friend is well spent and well worth it! This is a "lifetime" guitar; I will NEVER get rid of it!
Don't sell yourself short. If you are into playing songs where you are shredding 'til your fingers are on fire and then the very next song you slow it down to the pace of Led Zeppelin's Rain Song, then this guitar is for you. It can be frightfully mean, and the next second, it can be lazily mellow. It can be screaming and thrashing, and the next moment, it can be warm and full-bodied in its tonality. It's incredible. You have to experience it to believe it. You simply can't go wrong. I used to change guitars in between songs, now...other than to play a song with alternate string tuning, there is absolutely no need to switch.
If you've got the cash, pick one of these up. You won't be sorry. Also, if you do, please write back in the comments about how freakin' awesome your new acquisition is!
