Riptide ECUT-5BK Tenor Ukulele - Gloss Black Finish Review

Riptide ECUT-5BK Tenor Ukulele - Gloss Black Finish
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received a Riptide ECUT-5BK-Tenor from my wife for the holidays and I have to say I am extremely pleased with this ukulele, giddy in fact.
I was shocked to find it set up correctly and ready to play right out of the box. The only way I modified this uke was to remove the High G string and replace it with a wound Aquila Low G. This ukulele is the tenth in my collection, and the first of them that didn't require me to remove and shave the bridge piece to bring the action down. This uke sounds great unplugged, especially for the player with the side ported sound hole. I was a bit shocked when I noticed the depth of the body in comparison with the others I own, the Riptide has a nice deep body that provides a deep lush tone, especially in the lower registers, perfect for Low G tuning. The inlay and finish are beautiful, the binding and rosettes around the top and side sound holes are neat and clean and the black finish is deep and super glossy. The tuners are excellent quality with smooth, sealed gears and attractive black ebony colored buttons. The nut and bridge are neat and well crafted out of a synthetic bone material, not cheap molded plastic, and the intonation is excellent. The frets are one of the highlights of this uke, not the frets themselves, but the attention to detail during their installation, not a sharp edge, high/loose fret on the neck! The electronics are very good as well, but the kicker is the built in tuner! So convenient I now want one on all my ukes.
On a scale of 1 to 10 in the 'Bang For Your Buck' category, I would give the Boulder Creek / Riptide ECUT-5BK a dead solid 10!

Oscar Schmidt OU245SWK Tenor Ukulele, Mahogany Review

Just received a brand new Oscar Schmidt tenor uke purchase on Amazon.com. Perfect condition although box was damaged and partially opened. No shipping label was included. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very plush hard shell Oscar Schmidt black case included. I re-read the description on Amazon and the inclusion of the hard shell case was not mentioned. I had already purchased a new tenor-sized case so will have to return it. I would suggest updating the description to say the case is included. The finish on the uke is beautiful. I am just a beginner player but appreciate the rich full sound compared to my soprano uke. I already recommended this uke to someone who is a guitar player and wants to learn how to play the uke.

Great ukulele. awsome sound and quality. It doesnt look anything like the picture they have but still looks very good. I have shown it to a few people and they say they've never seen one like mine and are very impressed also. I wouldnt say its for beginners because it is kind of expensive but if you have been playing for a while and enjoy it and want a nicer ukulele than you have this is one to get. Koa is the best wood for ukulele its what I have been told since i started playing and i agree after buying this one.

Lanikai S-TEQ Solid Spruce Series Tenor Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Ukulele Gloss Natural Review

Wow! This uke has fantastic resonance and sound projection. This is WITHOUT amplification. The action came adjusted fairly low and will not require adjustment. It is a delight to play and will likely be a favorite of mine for quite some time. Amplifier is scheduled to arrive next week, but expect the uke to excel with it. Probably will not update unless the amplification does not meet my expectations.
Decided to add a tenor ukulele due to my pudgy fingers having difficulty with some chords on the smaller ukes. The ease of play is better than anticipated.
I do not believe it possible to be anything but delighted with the S-Teq!

This ukulele is beautiful and it sounds great too. Don't get me wrong it's no Cordoba
like my other uke, but for being an 8 string it gets the job done. I would replace the strings
to get the most out of this uke.

It's not often you find a KOA ukulele at such a great price. This ukulele has a beautiful tone and sounds fantastic amped! I own four ukuleles now and this one is by far my favorite. Lanikai, although made in china, makes outstanding ukuleles. When I first got it, it made a buzzing sound when strumming loud. This is an easy fix. There was a wire resting up against the soundboard. I just reached into the sound hole and adjusted the wire so it was no longer resting on the soundboard. As a result, the best ukulele ever! The tuning pegs are phenomenal. The cutaway design really helps when playing the higher frets. To top it all off, this ukulele looks fantastic. If you are considering a tenor ukulele to add to your ukulele family, I highly recommend this one.

Lanikai SM-C Custom Series Spalted Mango Concert Ukulele Review

Lanikai SM-C Custom Series Spalted Mango Concert Ukulele
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked this up a few months back and I have to say it just gets better with age. I was looking at the Ibanez spalted mango uke and it looked great, it was also much cheaper, but it sounded like a tin can with strings. I think that is because theirs is a laminate. The Lanikai is solid woods all the way around. At first it sounded a little muted, but I kept playing it and the top loosened up and now sounds great. Very mellow not like any of my other ukes. After I bought this one I saw that there is a Spalted Mango Lanikai with electronics and a killer looking headstock. That one is the SM-CE its very cool but I'll probably end up putting a MiSi in this one.
Great uke, oh... by the way dont go by the picture, each one is completely different mine showed up and it had the most killer looking top on it.

Hamano H-100 Vintage 1920 Style Concert Ukulele (Mahogany/Rosewood) Review

Hamano H-100 Vintage 1920 Style Concert Ukulele (Mahogany/Rosewood)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have teaching myself ukulele for about 3 months now.
This Hamano is my second ukulele. My first was a Kala soprano I bought from Amazon for about $50.
It had a nice sound, but it never stayed in tune. I took it to a guitar repair shop, and the neck was warping. The guy basically told it that it would cost $100 to fix. At that point, I was 6 weeks in, and was really enjoying the Uke, so I decided to buy something a TAD more expensive.
Word of mouth on the web lead me to consider a Mainland Uke or this Hamano. The Hamano Concert was at a local music school, and for the same price as Amazon, so I picked it up after being impressed with its fabtastic appearance, easy action and truly sweet sound.
This Hamano is very well constructed, has a very sweet, rich sound, and plays loud. In fact, my friend was just over with his Tenor Uke he got in Hawaii and he paid a lot more than I did and our ukes sound almost identical. He was VERY impressed. The "action" on this uke is very light-- very easy to learn to play on! Cannot say enough good stuff.
I broke down and bought a tenor uke from Mainland, and it has a very un-rich, hollow sound to it next to this Hamano. The Hamano is smaller but plays louder, and the tone is just really rich and beautiful. I am sorry I spent the money on the Mainland, frankly. I never play it. I just play the Hamano constantly and it is a real pleasure.
For beginners, I would suggest buying a plastic, $20-30 uke to see if you stick with it, and then I would unreservedly recommend this Hamano or its Tenor or Soprano cousins. The construction and finish are gorgeous.
The only con is: friction rather than geared tuners. They work, but I just prefer geared tuners.
You cannot get a better ukulele for this price.

Recording King Metal Body Resonator Soprano Ukulele Review

Recording King Metal Body Resonator Soprano Ukulele
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For a long time, the only review for this outsanding little resonator uke has been the one-star review, which said awful things about it. So, as much as I wanted a resonator uke, and especially at this amazing price, the little thing sat on my wish list, unpurchased for a very long time. But I never quite gave up on it, and I looked at the listing every so often, trying to make up my mind.
Then recently, somebody with "Ukulele" in their screen name posted a vindicating review, and it tipped the scales for me. I clicked "Add to Cart", and I'm really, really glad I did.
This instrument is everything I wanted. It looks great, sounds great, and feels great in your hands. It has the solid weight of quality, with terrific plating and smooth fit and finish everywhere. The intonation on mine is just fine, and the little beast roars with a classic room-filling resonator sound. I just couldn't be happier.
I honestly don't know how the one-star review guy could have had such a bad reaction to anything like the same Ukulele I received. It's a shame how many people his review might have scared off. Making the problem worse was that until now, there was only one pitiful little picture, so prospective buyers couldn't judge for themselves if the item looked "cheap". I just posted a few of my own pictures, highlighting what I think are some of its nicer features.
If you're in the mood for a resonator Uke with lots of great sound and character, and at a bargain-basement price, don't waste as much time as I did deciding to buy this one!

Lanikai SM-T Custom Series Spalted Mango Tenor Ukulele Review

This is a very handsome ukulele, the spalted mango is excellent. The albone inlay is awesome! But, for the price it was just ok. The tuners were not aligned perfectly, the top two are very crooked, there is glue all over the nut and it was not centered correcly. I just expected a little more quality in a ukuele in this price range. I will upgrade the tuners, upgrade to a better quality nut and bridge, then I will be alot happier with this. Also there is no strap button. I would highly recomend this instrument to anyone. It is beautiful, sounds great and plays great. Maybe you won't have the same problems. I really hope this review was helpful to you!!!!

Fender Ukulele Pa'ina Solid Mahogany, Natural Review

Fender Ukulele Pa'ina Solid Mahogany, Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I was looking for a new tenor uke I wasn't planning to purchase this one at all. I had my sights set on another, cheaper model but I when I went into a store called "The Guitar Shop" and saw it, it immediately began to persuade me to buy it. It was probably the price that was the biggest factor. I know how much it is online and the store was selling it for $253CDN. I couldn't pass that up.
The Pros: It sounds really, really nice. The strings that come with it are pretty good (Aquila) and I didn't have to buy new ones. The colour and feel of the uke are also quite nice but I do kind of like the mid-range Fender better style-wise.
The Cons: I've had major problems with this uke but after they were all fixed it finally became something I liked. Within the first month it had become cracked in three points on the back. I hadn't moved it in and out of the cold and although I don't have a humidifier, kept it in an environment that wasn't too dry. My other ukes and guitars are just fine but this one cracked. Also within the first two months the built-in pickup broke. I didn't ever use it but it became loose and the wires inside had disconnected. I was so frustrated.
Eventually I got it all fixed and haven't had a problem since. So for now, I'm loving it. Only time will tell if more is to happen.
I hear that the neck may start cracking where it meets the body. It is Fender's first go with ukes. Hopefully they will release a better made line in the future that sounds just as good.
