(More customer reviews)This is a serious instrument that sounds like an upright bass or a bass guitar depending on how you set the pickups. It is great with the small size but big tone. Go to YouTube and search for and listen to some of the clips. I love my Ashbory! I love my Fender Jazz 1978 bass but as I get older it gets heavier. Ashbory is great to carry on a plane or camping. Play it through a Crate Taxi battery amp and you are ready to make great music!

(More customer reviews)This Cuatro has been such a joy to have and to play. It a a beautiful looking instrument and the sound quality is great. It came with a nice looking, insulated carrying case. This Cuatro is worth every penny and I must say, that if you are to spend good money for a Cuatro, get the best that you can afford. So, aside from having one hand made in Puerto Rico, this is your best bet. I did much research on the woods and compared other "more affordable" ones, and this one was the best loved by all. I have to agree. If you love playing the Cuatro, this one's for you.

Yamaha SLG100S Silent Steel Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

It plays great, has almost zero dead spots, great factory setup, very little fret buzz for all playing styles, solos like an electric but sounds like an acoustic.
Produces amazing tone and sound quality through almost any set up, isn't hard on your back when standing (obviously), GREAT for recording. Plays jazz guitar the best.
Only drawback: must use expensive batteries; it drains the cheap ones really quickly. Or just use phantom power.
Would definitely pay list price for this model.

Luna Muse Parlor Bubinga Acoustic Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)I own two of these wonderful solid-wood guitars and I think it's one of the best instruments out there for the costs and quality of materials. The Luna Muse Bubinga is a great small-size professional quality guitar.
It's hard to find a solid-wood (no fillers, no fake woods) guitar that still are hand-made as well. The sound is crisp and clean and surprisingly voices a nice full sound -- i.e. it sounds much bigger than its compact size. It's a great travel guitar and has electronics as well for when you need to plug it in. It makes a perfect starter guitar for young students but I've enjoyed it as well as a 20 year guitar player.
A quick internet search for good travel or starter guitars shows that this is one of the best buys out there and it's almost impossible to find a comparable guitar (low price and solid wood). You won't be disappointed if you get one of these!

Voyage-Air Transit Series VAOM-02 Folding Orchestra Model Acoustic Guitar Review

(More customer reviews)We tried out several smaller travel guitars at local guitar shops. We searched for several other online. Martin Backpacker, Mini Taylor, Mini Martin, Washburn Rover all sounded good for their size, but really cannot be compared to any full size guitar. If you are basically strumming, then those smaller travel guitars are fine. You can even buy them on E-bay for cheap. If you are doing some more intricate playing, then a full size guitar is a minimum. This Voyage-Air line of guitars fits that need.
This model is the laminate-top model. The least expensive too. Paid 355 bucks here on Amazon with free shipping. We decided that since it is primarily for travel, the laminate would withstand the abuse of travel better than a solid-top. That was confirmed after reading advice from guitar experts.
When locked into position the neck is secure, and it has the full sound of a regular guitar... not the sound of the smaller travel ones. The screw which secures the neck to the base does protrude a bit and you do feel it when your hand slides down toward the body of the guitar. It's no high-end Martin or Taylor, but that is not the right comparison.
The backpack is high quality and custom fit. I'm sure it will fit in the airplane overhead bins as we had hoped. The backpack even has a padded area to fit a notebook computer.
Now my teenage son is excited to be able to bring a full size guitar on our upcoming vacations. I'll try to get him to post a video review.
Voyage-Air has raised the bar with travel guitars.
Update 5/20/11:
Traveled to central america with this guitar. He loved having a full size guitar on our vacation. Fit into all the overhead airline bins easily. No problems with the humidity of central america. Easy to carry around compared to a regular guitar.

Martin Steel String Backpacker Travel Guitar with Bag Review

(More customer reviews)I received this little guitar today (October 2010), and started playing it right out of the box, or rather out of the gig bag. It arrived in perfect order after having travelled all the way from the US to Europe. All I had to do was tuning it of course. Included were the gig bag and two straps, one for the guitar and one for the gig bag, and various pamphlets were also included. It was supplied with Martin M170 strings. It is very well set up with perfect action according to my taste, and intonation is faultless.
I own a Martin D28, and really didn't expect too much of a sound from this baby (virtually), but was very pleasantly surprised. It sounds very martinesque, and being a fingerpicker it really doesn't matter if the sound isn't that powerful because it's very silvery and balanced. It really "outsounds" it's modest size, and projects the sound very well. I've owned other standard size acoustic guitars that don't have been that much louder and far less defined. Nevertheless, I intend to have it in the cabin of my boat with no need for a shouter, and the size makes it perfect for that.
It's well made with a satin finish, and though I usually prefer a harder shiny finish it really doesn't matter. I usually put Thomastik strings on all my guitars, but those Martin 170 strings are perfectly suited for this Backpacker so I won't need it this time. It's a little top heavy with that small body, but with the strap tied around the headstock that is easily corrected. I had some doubt about holding such a small instrument correctly as I'm used to embracing guitars like my D28 dreadnought, Gretsch G6122 Nashville Classic and G100 Synchromatic, much bigger instruments, but I had no problems with this one. It's just a matter of practice.
So have no fears in getting the Backpacker because of it's small (and very handy) size.
