(More customer reviews)A decent price for a neck through V with an Original Floyd Rose trem.
I've played lots of V's, own a Gibson V, a Deamn VMNT and a Schecter ATX V-1FR. I've been looking for a good V with a FR or other locking trem system for some time, which originally lead me to the Schecter (as well as a Jackon RR5 that i returned). The problem I've had with both of these is their tendency to neck-dive when played with a strap standing up. Compared to both the Gibson and the Dean (both standard bridges) which hang perfectly balanced, it becomes a struggle to play a guitar when you are constantly fighting the tendency for it to dive.
That brings me to this particular BC Rich. I've avoided the later model BCs for some time, as I really don't like all the tribal graphics and the black widow headstocks that seem to be prevalent on all of their current (KFK) models, but this one caught my eye since it had the 'traditiona;' BC headstock. The ebony fretboard and the MoP inlays are nice and smooth. I did notice that the binding on the neck was flawed at one fret, allowing the 1st string to get caught in there, but a few minutes with my local guitar guy fixed that up.
Also, there were definitely little workmanship issues to be found here and there on the guitar, like loose screws, etc, but I suppose that is what one should expect from a chineese import guitar. Take the time to give it a once over and tend to all these issues and for the money this guitar is a decent player.
Oh yes, also the Rockfield Mafia pickups: I was prepared to swap these out as soon as I got the guitar, being used to the duncan blackouts on my shecter, but I am pleasantly surprised with them. Fairly high output for passive pups, if you're a metal player (and of course you are if you're looking at this axe) and have a decent tube amp (I have 2 marshalls) they sound pretty good. I'll probably end up replaceing them at some point, but the guitar is fine with them in for now.
