(More customer reviews)based on other reviews, I thought this would be a long, difficult process. Luckily, that wasn't the case. My 10-yr-old and I put it together in about an hour. There was a single piece of paper, double sided, with simple directions. Neither of us had ever put one together before, and we only snapped at each other once. However, I will say that we have been around musical instruments, and are familiar with what it "should" look like.
Tuning the drum heads was the trickiest part. Go slow. Put ALL the rods on LOOSELY, then tighten in "rounds", turning opposing rods to get a uniform tightness (if the drum head looks "wringly" it's because it is tightened unevenly. Hit the drum head (w/stick) in front of each rod to make sure they have same tone. If one area it sounds too low, tighten that rod, and so on until the perimeter of the entire drum head has the same tone.
Anyway, we got this for my 5-yr-old, who is very musically/rhytmically gifted, and he's looooving it! I was impressed with the sturdyness of this drum set. He is wailing on it. I'll try to update after a few months to see how it's holding up.
