(More customer reviews)I bought the Yamaha FG730S as a 'bedroom' guitar to noodle around on. Overall tone is well balanced with a slight emphasis towards warmth. Bass is deep and resonant with just a touch of boominess (to be expected from a dreadnought), treble is articulate and bright with a nice snap to it. Sustain is excellent and harmonics jump out effortlessly. The neck width at the nut is 1-11/16" which makes it comfortable for someone with small hands (me) to play. Initial setup straight out of the box was respectable requiring only minor adjustments. For reference I have the action set fairly low using Elixir light-medium (12-56) with no buzz. Playing soft or digging in, it sounds wonderful. Strumming chords or picking out a line, it's all there. You'll love the way it 'thrums' against your chest playing open chords. The only caveats I had when I first got it were the tuners and bridge pins, the stock tuners wouldn't stay in tune and I felt the cheapo plastic pins were just out of place compared to the rest of the instrument hence the 4 out of 5 stars for the rating. So I replaced the tuners with a set of gold Grovers and swapped out the pins for Taylors in ebony (with the classy abalone dots). If you're in the market for an affordable, great sounding, easy to play 'basic' guitar you would be well advised to give the FG730S a try. And don't let anyone tell you this is a beginners guitar, far from it. The tone, playability, and craftsmanship all indicate otherwise. One more thing, I would recommend getting yourself a good hardshell case, I picked up a SKB-18 (same as Martin's 640 case but much cheaper) and it fits perfectly. So there you have it... for around $450 including upgrades and case you'll have one heck of a guitar that will hold it's own against others costing over twice as much. This is the one you'll find yourself reaching for time and time again. Almost forgot to mention, I replaced the stock saddle with a LR Baggs LB6 pickup, nice and simple and sounds great. She's a keeper! BTW, Yamaha customer service rocks! I emailed them with a question hoping to get a reply within a week or so (as you would expect from any large corporation) and they CALLED me back the very same day! Simply awesome.
